RIVER BLUE DOCUMENTARY REVIEW

As I’ve already mentioned in here and on Instagram, I went to see the documentary River Blue in Empire Bio last Wednesday with Sustain Daily. That movie really moved me. Because even though I kind of already knew that the fast fashion industry wasn’t good, I had never really seen with my own eyes how polluting it actually is to the planet, and how it affects the people producing the clothes in fx China, India and Bangladesh.

The movie showed different rivers close to these factories where the clothes were being produced, and you saw how all the chemicals they use for dying the clothes ran directly out into these rivers. The exact same water which the local community is drinking, bathing in and much more.

The rivers were so polluted! And one of them was actually bobbling because of all the chemicals.

The documentary made me want to never support this industry again, at least not until they change their way of producing the clothes, so that it no longer damages the Earth, or the people producing the clothes.

But how are you then going to get new clothes?

Luckily there are a lot of amazing brands which focus on a sustainable production of their clothes, and bedremode’s blog shares a lot of these brands. I’ve realized myself that of course these brands are a bit more expensive, but I will rather buy less clothes and then invest in something better, and be sure that I support something good.

And if you are on the hunt for some cheap clothing, there are so many thrift stores, markets and sales apps where you can find lots of clothes.

RIVER BLUE DOCUMENTARY

My awesome blog community Sustain Daily has gotten the documentary River Blue to Denmark!

The documentary is about how the clothing production industry is polluting the Planet, and in China 70 % of all rivers are polluted. This industry does not only damage the environment, but also the people on Earth.

I am for sure going to watch it, and become a little bit clever upon this topic, so I’ve already bought my ticket for the show in Copenhagen on September 20.

The movie is also going to be shown in Aalborg today and in Aarhus tomorrow. You can read a lot more about the movie, and find your ticket here.

THE HUMAN EXPERIMENT DOCUMENTARY

Everybody should watch this documentary on Netflix (just like everyone should watch Conspiracy, Forks over Knives, What The Health etc.). This documentary focuses on harmful chemicals which are found in cleaning products, body products, make-up etc. and which we expose our skin and body for every single day. These chemicals go in and have severe consequences for our health, and are suspected of being the reason for more people having astma, autism, cancer and the reason for many people having problems getting kids today. That is terrifying.

The documentary takes place in the US, and I’m so lucky to live in EU where regulations have been made when it comes to which chemicals it is allowed to use and not to use. But the documentary contains information that everyone should know about – and start to think about which products you use in your everyday life.

As mentioned in a previously blogpost, I will recommend using as natural products as possible, or make them yourself. Then you know exactly what is in them and you do not expose your body to any harmful chemicals which can affect you in the long run.

MY GOTTA-SEE DOCUMENTARY LIST

I love documentaries. As in LOVE. Especially those about the body, the mind, health, the environment. Love, love, love. I’ve shared several good documentaries before, which I can definitely recommend, and at the moment I have a little list of documentaries I want to watch. But I thought that I might just as well share them with you guys – perhaps it could be something you would like to watch as well. And if you have any good documentaries I must watch, please share them in the comments, that would be awesome!

1. The Connection

This one I got recommend by Ida the other day, and I immediately wrote it down in my mind! It should be about how we through our thoughts and feelings can affect our body and our physical health. By your thoughts and feelings you can either hurt yourself by creating illness in your body, or you can cure yourself. It sounds so interesting, and is definitely something I want to dig deeper into.

2. E-motion

As I’ve read, this should be a little bit like The Connection. Once again it’s about how our minds and thoughts affects our physical health and wellbeing. In this case, focus should be upon how our negative thoughts can make us sick.

3. Minimalism

If you are just a little bit interested in minimalism, you must have come across this movie and the two guys behind it! Joshua and Ryan has been known as ‘the Minimalists’, and they both have a blog and a podcast where they talk about living a minimalistic life. The documentary should be about the same thing; living a life with minimal stuff and things, and instead focus on the things that really matters in life.

Food Choices Documentary

Yay!

Yay! If there is one thing that I absolutely love, it is health documentaries. And luckily there are coming more and more of them, especially now when a minor revolution is happening inside the health field, about whether or not you should eat meat, eggs and dairy products. I think it is highly interesting, and I love getting new knowledge within this area. The documentary ‘Food Choices’ has just come up Netflix, so just a little recommendation from here – maybe you should watch it in the weekend?

Before the Flood Documentary

Jeg vil lige komme med en opfordring om at se dokumentaren Before the Flood.

I’ll recommend that you go watch the documentary Before the Flood. You can see it for free on YouTube until Sunday. Leonardo DiCaprio is the man behind the movie. He has shown to be a true environmentalist, and he has done a lot in trying to get normal citizens and politicians to do something about global warming, before it is too late. I’m already hugely concerned with everything that has to do with the environment, and I want to do my best in order to help our planet, and make sure that it doesn’t end as bad, as it will if we continue as we have done so far.

Everybody can do something to help. Turn of the lights and other electronic devices when you don’t use it, cut down on meat, choose environmental friendly products when you’re buying things, say no to plastic bags in the shops – figure out what you can do, and then DO it. We only have one planet, and we need to take care of it!

INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT?

You might have heard the expressions ‘introvert’ and ‘extrovert’, and you might already know which one you are, or if you are a mix of both, or perhaps you have never heard these terms in your life before.

Today I wanted to write a little bit about introverts and extroverts, and identifying what you are and what those close to you are and learning to accept and respect people as they are.

Basically introverts are people who enjoy being alone, having their alone time and get more physically and mentally exhausted when they spend too much time with other people.

Extroverts, are the opposite. They love spending time with other people and get more energy out of this.

And then there are those in the middle, which is a little bit of both. They both enjoy time alone, but they sure also love spending time with other people.

I’m for sure a bit of both, but leaning more towards the introverted side. I love spending time alone. I love reading, writing, watching a good movie or documentary, going for a walk. I truly enjoy my own company and have no problem spending hours alone. But I also love, in smaller doses, to spend time with other people. What I enjoy most is spending time with a few close people for a couple of hours. Whenever I spend an entire day with lots of people I get so drained and tired both mentally and physically.

But enough about me. I wanted to talk about the importance of knowing yourself, and knowing your closed ones. Fx if you are an introvert and don’t really are aware of it, and you spend a lot of time with other people then you might start to feel sick, get annoyed or frustrated with others. When this start to happen you might start to get more irritated and say things you don’t mean or appear angry with others, which of course can lead to lots of conflicts. But, if you know yourself well enough then you can learn to say to yourself that “I’ve had enough, I need time for myself”.

If your friends and families know you, and know how your personality is and what you can and cannot handle, and they love you – then they will respect this. They will know that it’s nothing personal and it’s not you being angry or frustrated with them as persons, but it’s just you who cannot handle anymore because of how you are as a person.

I find it so important to know myself and my boundaries, just like I like to know my friends, families and boyfriend’s. I also find it important to simply just let my closed ones know how I’m feeling and what I can handle. If you are spending time together and you start to feel like you need to go home and sleep, or you simply want to be alone, just tell them. Let them know where you are at. Most people will understand, it’s more the unknowing part of what is happening inside a person that can be frustrating, but if you simply say “I’m really tired, so I think I’m gonna go home now”, chances are that everyone can understand.

If you are interested in learning more about yourself as a person, then I can recommend this test, I found it truly spot on. According to this test I am an “Advocate” (INFJ) – and I found that everything that was written fit me so well. And if your friends and families are into it as well, then make them take the test as well and read each others results. It’s so fun to get to know your closed ones more personally, and learn to understand them much more.

I hope this wasn’t too rambling, and it made sense in a way. Do you know what you are? An extrovert or an introvert? And have you tried taking the personality test? Which one were you?

EVERYDAY HAPPINESS

It’s Monday and time to reflect at some everyday happiness which I experienced the past week. I’ve had a lovely past week filled with DIY projects, great talks, and watching a documentary together with my parents and much more! How was your past week?

The past week I made a cleaning spray consisting of only water and white vinegar, easy peasy!

I also made some homemade lip balms, which you can find the recipe for right here

I’ve been planning and reflecting a lot. I know 2018 is going to be one amazing year!

I’ve been eating deliciousy healthy food! I watched What the Health once again this week, this time with my parents <3

I had the most delicious hot chocolate on coconut milk at Souls, together with the most lovely, passionated talk about so many different things together with Cirkeline <3

After a visit to Souls, we went straight across the street and visited the most beautiful little store called The Organic Club, which both sells brand with a sustainable focus and secondhand clothing – loved it, definitely worth a visit!

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s Wednesday and time for sharing some things with you guys! I’ve found some highly interesting, and very different, things for you this week. If you’ve anything interesting you would like to share, please feel free to share them below in the comments.

1. An Inconvenient Sequel – this is Al Gore’s 2nd documentary (first one called ‘An Inconvenient Truth’), which is all about climate change and the horrifying situation we’re in. I need to see this as soon as possible!

2. Cathrine is hosting a New Year’s event with Marie from Carrotstick.dk, come join if you want to start the new year with a fresh and healthy start!

3. I love this little experiment with girls wearing no make-up. How do you feel about not wearing make-up? I have no problem going to buy groceries, or just going for a walk, but I gotta admit going to school or work I always put on just a little bit of make-up

4. Have you ever thought about what you want to become when you die? Do you want to get burned or buried? I know for sure what I want to! I want to become a tree. I absolutely love the idea of turning myself into a tree when I die and thereby give something back to Earth and help the climate (I know death isn’t the most exciting thing to talk about, but when I came across this company I just knew that was what I wanted to do once that time comes – hopefully many, many years from now)
