HOMEMADE MOISTURIZING FACE CREAM

I just tried making my own face cream the other day, and it turned out really well. I asked you guys on Instagram if you wanted the recipe, and that was a solid yes! So, here you go!

The recipe is made with only 4 natural and pure ingredients and water. Simply, easy and you are then assured that you only put good ingredients on your face. Because remember, whatever you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body. Therefore I want to use as pure ingredients as possible.

The face cream is very moisturising, and perfect for dry winter skin. This cream is also perfect if you have very sensitive skin, because all the ingredients are very gentle and soothing.

If you are not used to putting oils on your face, then you might find the cream a bit too greasy to use as a day cream, but it sure is perfect for a very moisturising night cream.

Ingredients

  • 50 g almond oil
  • 10 g sheabutter
  •  6 g bee’s wax
  • 50 g water
  • a few drops of vitamin E oil (optional)

 

*Shea butter is known for repairing skin and boosting collagen

How to do it

It is so simple, you just put all the ingredients into a double boiler and melt it all together. Once it is all melted, you put it into the freezer for 15-20 minutes. Then you take it out and use a mixer to blend it all together until it has a nice, smooth consistency. Then use a spoon to scoop it into a glass or tin container, and voila you’ve got yourself your very own face cream!

HOMEMADE AND SIMPLE CLEANING SPRAY

This year I’m trying to empty my old cleaning products and switch them for some more natural and environmental friendly ones. First I’ve made a very simply cleaning spray!

This cleaning spray can be used to clean surfaces with, and if you want a deeper clean, then try sprinkle some baking soda over the specific area and then spray this cleaningspray over the baking soda and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off with a good scrub.

Ingredients

  • 1 part white vinegar
  •  1 part water

Put both ingredients in a spray bottle, and then you’ve made a very natural cleaning spray. In this way you can clean your house/apartment without worrying about letting any nasty chemicals out into the nature when you rinse it down the sink, and thereby take even better care of our lovely Planet, while at the same time having a clean house.

HOMEMADE NATURAL AND MOISTURIZING LIP BALM

Today it’s going to be all about how you can make your very own natural and moisturising lip balm! It only consist of 4 ingredients and it is super easy to make.

If you haven’t noticed it yet, then I can tell you that I love to make homemade skincare products. This time it was time to make homemade lip balm. I can absolutely not take credit for the recipe as I’ve mainly just followed ones I’ve found on the internet, but I’ve left out any kind of essential oils and just added some vitamin E oil. That is just my preference to leave out essential oils since I often find that lip balms can get too perfumed, and I actually just prefer the smell of more discrete and natural ingredients such as coconut oil and shea butter, this just smells divine, if you ask me!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbs of shea butter
  • 1 tbs of coconut oil
  • 1 tbs of beeswax
  • A few drops of vitamin E oil

This amount fills 4 of these small tin containers. 

 

How to do it

You put all the ingredients into a doubled boiler and wait for it all to melt and mix. Pour it all into small tin containers, I bought mine from Naturligolie.dk, and then put them in the fridge for about 1/2 hour. Easy peasy, now you’ve made homemade natural and moisturising lip balm!

MAKE YOUR OWN SKINCARE PRODUCTS

If there’s something I really love to do, it’s to make my own skincare products. And I’ve already created a bunch of them and shared them in here with you guys, but if you are new to this blog, then here you have some recipes for homemade skincare products!

By making your own skincare products you will know exactly what is in them, and you can customise them to fit your skintype. You can play around and try different ingredients, fx try using jojoba oil instead of almond oil. Put less of some of the “butter” in it and more of the liquid ingredients if you like a more liquid consistency in your products. You can really play around and find what fits you and your skin type. Some homemade skincare products are also the perfect idea for a present to your friends, sister or mom!

A LITTLE EASTER BREAK

I am going to take a little Easter break from posting in here, and will instead focus on relaxing, homeworks and creating new and good content once I’m back again.

EVERYDAY HAPPINESS

It’s Monday and that means looking back at some everyday happiness from the past week!
The past week was filled with dinner and playing “Hint” with my friends (have you tried it? It’s so much fun!), lots of studying and reading, lots of time for indoor selfcare and drinking tea while it was snowing and being reallyyyy cold outside. Café date with my mom, more reading and café coziness with my friends, work and Sunday was spent pretty much on the long side on the couch relaxing, drinking tea, eating homemade vegan cinnamon rolls (but I did also paint a shelf, which is now above my desk and is going to be filled with plants)!

Monday evening my friends and I made dinner together (recipe by Piece of Plants), and played ‘Hint’ <3

I’ve been drinking tons of tea because of this cold, cold weather we currently have in Denmark (or, all of Europe it seems like?)

I’ve been dry brushing, as always, before a lovely shower. Best thing every – it removes dead skins cells and gets your lymphatic system going!

I still love this homemade face cream, and tongue scraping. There’s just something about small everyday rituals which makes you feel really good <3

Sunday I baked homemade vegan cinnamon rolls (recipe from Mia Sommer’s cookbook ‘Vegansk Velvære’; but I tried to make them into rolls instead of buns). I would not say that they aesthetically was so successful, but as with all other things in life – it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and they sure tasted delicious! And Sunday was also the day that Sustain Yearly ended their crowdfunding campaign, and with 35.000 DKKR extra! So amazing, can’t wait to get the magazine in April!

EVERYDAY HAPPINESS

The past week has been filled with lots of studying, great time with one of my best friends, coming home to valentines day to find that my boyfriend had bought me flowers and chocolate (so sweet, but I might have hinted it a bit too much, cause that is the first time in 5 years that that happens, nevertheless I’m so grateful and I love him so much) and I’ve been on a lovely yoga retreat with Cathrine on Samsø over the weekend <3

As you might have seen on Instagram, I’ve started tongue scraping and it’s incredibly satisfying once you first begin

I’ve also tried to make my very own face cream, and it turned out really well, it’s so thick and moisturising, perfect for dry winter skin!

I spend the weekend in this beautiful place (Mellem-Rummet) at Samsø on a yoga retreat held by Cathrine, and a lot of kind and loving people. We ate lots of delicious, healthy vegan food, practiced yoga, relaxed, drank herbal teas and just had time to just be. So lovely!

It’s Monday and time to reflect at some everyday happiness which I experienced the past week. I’ve had a lovely past week filled with DIY projects, great talks, and watching a documentary together with my parents and much more! How was your past week?

The past week I made a cleaning spray consisting of only water and white vinegar, easy peasy!

I’ve been planning and reflecting a lot. I know 2018 is going to be one amazing year!

I’ve been eating deliciousy healthy food! I watched What the Health once again this week, this time with my parents <3

I had the most delicious hot chocolate on coconut milk at Souls, together with the most lovely, passionated talk about so many different things together with Cirkeline <3

After a visit to Souls, we went straight across the street and visited the most beautiful little store called The Organic Club, which both sells brand with a sustainable focus and secondhand clothing – loved it, definitely worth a visit!

REFLECTING ON THE YEAR THAT PASSED

I’ve already been writing down in my journal some of my reflections for the past year, but then I thought that some of these things might be interesting for you out there to follow along with as well. Here are some of the things which have had the biggest impact on my life in 2017:

 

Zero waste

2017 was the year that I learned about Zero Waste. I had NEVER heard about this concept, before I came across Lauren Singer from trashisfortossers on Youtube, and I fell head over heels in love with the concept and how Lauren made it look cool while at the same time doing something amazing for the planet. So, I started doing a lot of researching about this and saw a ton of youtube videos and read blogposts about this concept and started to change things in my own life.

I’ve already changed lots of things in 2017, I have changed to a menstrual cup, a shampoo bar, I’ve started to change my skincare and bodycare products for products that come in glass or steel instead of plastic, I’m still using a reusable water bottle which I’ve done for many years actually, I’m using reusable cotton bags whenever I’m buying groceries, I’ve switched to bamboo toothbrushes instead of plastic brushes and I’ve started trying to make a lot of homemade skincare products as well.

These are just some of the things which I’ve been changing, but the biggest one is just my mentality. I had honestly never thought about before how I could make a positive change in my life besides the usual advices such as”turn off the lights when you don’t use it” and “don’t shower too long”. It has encouraged me to really believe that I can make much more of a difference in my everyday life than I first thought possible, and I’ve also started to realised how I can show the world what I want to support by using my money. I’ve started doing a lot more research before buying anything new, I want the brands do be sustainable and ethical, and I especially want to support more local brands.

 

Friendships

2017 was also the year where I learned to reach out to new people with the same interests as me. I gotta make a shoutout to Ida for making me more open towards this. Ida was the one asking me if we should grab a cup of coffee in the beginning of the new year. I gotta admit, I was kind of nervous about meeting something for the first time whom I had only been writing with on Instagram.

But this had probably been one of the most life changing things for me. Because I came to realize that it really isn’t that frightening. I mean, what is the worst that can happened? That the two of you don’t get along, well then you can just stop meeting up anymore. And wow how I’ve met some inspirering new people through Instagram and my blog. I’ve met Ida, which is now one of my very close friends. I’ve met Anna, Cathrine and Cirkeline. I’ve also met some of the girls from Sustain Daily, and become a part of Sustain Daily influencers thanks to Instagram. And I’m constantly thankful for all those commenting and messaging me on Instagram or my blog, I absolutely love connecting with like-minded people, it is truly amazing and inspirering. Thanks to all of you out there.

 

Health

2017 has been one of the best years when it comes to my health both physically and mentally. I’ve learned a lot more about yoga, spirituality, ayurveda, hormones, the menstrual cycle and so much more! I’ve finally realized that the best way to be healthy is to have the connection between both the physical and the mental aspect. You will never be really healthy if all you do is eat strictly healthy, train all the time and just do things for the sake of your ‘outer appearance’ or physical health. Life is ALL about balance. It can be just as healthy for you to go on a café with your best friends, your loved one or your mom and just talk and eat a delicious cookie and drink a latte. Everything in moderation, but life is all about balance and it should not be about restricting yourself. Find out what makes you the happiest, and make sure to do these things regularly – life is made out of the small everyday things, and we should strive for bringing those small things into our lives as much as possible.
2017 was also the year I chose to stop taking birth control pills after having done a lot of research about how damaging this is to our bodies and how much it can affect our mood and our overall happiness, and I can already say after just 1 month without birth control pills that I’m feeling so much happier.

 

I feel unbelievably blessed for this past year and what I’ve experienced, and how my mentality has changed and for what I have learned. I want to take some days off from the blog for the rest of this year to take time to be with my family and friends (and work on some exams), and then I’m absolutely positive that I will return in the new year with lots of new content and inspiration.
