INTERESTING THINGS

It’s Wednesday and time to look at some of the things I’ve found interesting lately, and wauw this week I have a bunch of inspirering videos for you! One about life and pressure and expectations, one about a plastic free supermarket, an inspirational talk by Peta Kelly and a good advice from Hannah McNeely.

If you have anything you would like to share – books, articles, videos, documentaries, music etc. then feel so very free to share them with me!

1. This little video about life and pressure was just so beautiful and so true! We all live different lives, want different things etc. and you don’t have to do something just because others are doing it. Do what makes you happy and do it when and where you want to

2. This plastic free supermarket in Amsterdam is pretty amazing, hopefully this will be the new normal within a few years!

3. This talk by Peta Kelly gave my goosebumps! So inspirering!

4. I agree so much with what Hannah is saying here!

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s Wednesday and I finally have lots of interesting things for you this week! This week there’s an interesting guide about CO2 compensation, a beautiful and magical song, a new TRASH & TALK event with Clean Up Copenhagen and a speech about sustainable living!

If you have any interesting things, videos, talks, books, songs etc. please feel very free to share them with me!

1. Emma’s guide to CO2 compensate for your plane travels is so great! I wasn’t aware of that you could do this kind of CO2 compensation before reading Emma’s post. I’m for sure going to do this for every travel I go on from now on, I know that travelling by plane is not ideal, yet I still want to explore the world and spend some lovely time with those I love, and this is a great way to compensate a bit for that.

2. Cologne by Haux – I have been listening to this song non-stop for the last couple of days, it’s magical and beautiful!

3. TRASH & TALK event with Clean Up Copenhagen this Sunday at Amager Strand from 11-12, come and join!

4. I’ll be holding a speech together with Emma & Johanne about the small things you can do in your everyday life to live sustainably 12th of April in Fredensborg, come join if you are nearby!

BOOK RECOMMENDATION – EARTH IS HIRING

It’s time for another book recommendation, and this time I want to recommend you the book “Earth is Hiring”.

I recently finished the book “Earth is Hiring – the new way to live, lead, earn, give for millennial and anyone who gives a sh*t* by Peta Kelly the other day, and wauw. Amazing! If you are interested in sustainability, changing the world for the better, creative ways of working and living – then this book is for you.

It is such a down-to-Earth book which tells all about how to live a better life in alignment with new values, which is what the Earth needs to survive. It’s all about how we can create businesses and lives which makes us and Mother Nature thrive, and which doesn’t cause harm to the Planet, and in that way ensures that there will be a planet for future generations.

I don’t want to give away too much of the book, because you should read it and enjoy it. But Peta surely is one amazingly inspirering human-being and while reading the book I got so inspired, and uplifted and ensured that I can literally do and work with whatever I want – and I want that to be something positive, healthy and something which helps humans and the Earth.

Quote from the book:

“How does it get any better than this? With this question, you will invite in more of all that is good. You’ll invite in more love, more success, more abundance, and more happiness and joy. You’ll keep yourself on your super highway to alignment and in your flowing tap”

BOOK RECOMMENDATION – THE FOUR AGREEMENTS

A little while ago I read the book “The Four Agreements*” by Don Miguel Ruiz, and wauw. I’ve had this book on my reading list for such a long time, and it is such a light an easy read so I don’t know why I’ve waited so long, but I do believe in timing, and it was the perfect time to read it, it really got me.

Don Miguel Ruiz writes about 4 fundamental life lessons in his book “The Four Agreements”, which in all its simplicity are some very simple life lessons, yet this is something we tend to forget about all the time. But, getting reminded of these things and seeing them in such a simple way really makes a difference. It lights you up and makes you feel good, and really shows you how you can change your own world by changing your perception about life.

I don’t want to give away too much, or say what these life lessons are, because I do believe there was something very special about reading the book and seeing these for yourself, and I don’t want to give that away. But, I will give you a little inspirering quote from the book:

“The word is pure magic – the most powerful gift we have as humans – and we use it against ourselves”

All I can say is that I definitely recommend this book. It is beautiful and so full of wisdom which we could all benefit from becoming aware of and knowing (and using).

Have you read the book? What did you think about it? If you have any other book recommendations, please let me know and I’ll add it to my never-ending-reading-list!

FORGIVENESS IS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAL

Yesterday I was reading in the book “The Four Agreements“* (which is a must-read!) and the quote “Forgiveness is the only way to heal” came up. I have been thinking about this life lessons myself several times in my own life, and now I got reminded to share it with you guys.

In all it’s simplicity it’s about that you will never heal yourself and move on from something if you do not choose to forgive those who you think have hurt or harmed you in any way.

Let me show you an example, if you for example have been dating a guy and find out that he has been dating several others at the same time, then you might feel betrayed and hurt. Over time you will move on, but you will never fully heal yourself until you choose to forgive the guy. This doesn’t mean that you in any way have to go up to the guy and say “I forgive you”. You simply just need to forgive him in your own heart. Know that there could have been several reasons for him doing so, and that it really might not have anything to do with you at all. Choose to look at the things you’ve learned along the way instead. Because of this relation you might have learned how to be more open towards other people, you might also have learned that what you want in a potential partner is someone who is loyal towards you. Realise that you would never have learned these things if you hadn’t had that negative experience, and see it as a blessing. I love the Dumbledore quote (you know, from Harry Potter): “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light“.

motivational journal

To take another example, some blame their parents for having given them a certain upbringing. Choose to look at it this way instead – most parents did the best they could with what they had and with the knowledge they had. There’s really no point in holding on to anger or frustration for how you was raised – instead choose to let go, forgive, and choose your own way now.

By holding on to anger, or not wanting to forgive someone, you are only holding yourself back and hurting yourself. All those negative feelings are locked inside you. You might think that you are directing them at someone else, but the only person it is truly hurting – is yourself.

Choose to forgive and you can thereby heal yourself.

INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT?

You might have heard the expressions ‘introvert’ and ‘extrovert’, and you might already know which one you are, or if you are a mix of both, or perhaps you have never heard these terms in your life before.

Today I wanted to write a little bit about introverts and extroverts, and identifying what you are and what those close to you are and learning to accept and respect people as they are.

Basically introverts are people who enjoy being alone, having their alone time and get more physically and mentally exhausted when they spend too much time with other people.

Extroverts, are the opposite. They love spending time with other people and get more energy out of this.

And then there are those in the middle, which is a little bit of both. They both enjoy time alone, but they sure also love spending time with other people.

I’m for sure a bit of both, but leaning more towards the introverted side. I love spending time alone. I love reading, writing, watching a good movie or documentary, going for a walk. I truly enjoy my own company and have no problem spending hours alone. But I also love, in smaller doses, to spend time with other people. What I enjoy most is spending time with a few close people for a couple of hours. Whenever I spend an entire day with lots of people I get so drained and tired both mentally and physically.

But enough about me. I wanted to talk about the importance of knowing yourself, and knowing your closed ones. Fx if you are an introvert and don’t really are aware of it, and you spend a lot of time with other people then you might start to feel sick, get annoyed or frustrated with others. When this start to happen you might start to get more irritated and say things you don’t mean or appear angry with others, which of course can lead to lots of conflicts. But, if you know yourself well enough then you can learn to say to yourself that “I’ve had enough, I need time for myself”.

If your friends and families know you, and know how your personality is and what you can and cannot handle, and they love you – then they will respect this. They will know that it’s nothing personal and it’s not you being angry or frustrated with them as persons, but it’s just you who cannot handle anymore because of how you are as a person.

I find it so important to know myself and my boundaries, just like I like to know my friends, families and boyfriend’s. I also find it important to simply just let my closed ones know how I’m feeling and what I can handle. If you are spending time together and you start to feel like you need to go home and sleep, or you simply want to be alone, just tell them. Let them know where you are at. Most people will understand, it’s more the unknowing part of what is happening inside a person that can be frustrating, but if you simply say “I’m really tired, so I think I’m gonna go home now”, chances are that everyone can understand.

If you are interested in learning more about yourself as a person, then I can recommend this test, I found it truly spot on. According to this test I am an “Advocate” (INFJ) – and I found that everything that was written fit me so well. And if your friends and families are into it as well, then make them take the test as well and read each others results. It’s so fun to get to know your closed ones more personally, and learn to understand them much more.

I hope this wasn’t too rambling, and it made sense in a way. Do you know what you are? An extrovert or an introvert? And have you tried taking the personality test? Which one were you?

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s been forever since I last shared an ‘interesting things’ post. But sometimes there just isn’t that much inspiration, and then I’d rather just wait until I have some than just share something which I don’t really find that interesting. I hope you can find some inspiration in the 3 things I want to share with you today.

And, remember, if you have found anything interesting (links, articles, videos, documentaries, books etc.) please just share them with me, I would love to know!

1. UN environment #CleanSeas Break-Up PSA: “it’s not me, it’s you” video about breaking up with plastic. I love this, it’s hilarious – and yet also something we all need to take seriously to protect our seas, and our Planet. I love that the UN has made this video!

3. Organic Olivia’s youtube channel – I just found this girl yesterday and I love her channel. She’s all about holistic and natural health and beauty, she also has a video about how to do a gua sha facial massage

4. Sustain Yearly, the sustainable lifestyle magazine, is now SO close to reach its goal on kickstarter! If you haven’t bought your copy yet, go and support it! (*10 minutes after I wrote this, they reached the goal! Sustain Yearly 2nd year is becoming a reality!)

SUSTAIN YEARLY MAGAZINE – ONE WEEK LEFT!

As I’ve already written about once before in here, the sustainable lifestyle magazine Sustain Yearly is running its crowdfunding campaign at the moment and now there’s only 1 week left!

More than 400 people have backed the project so far and the 100,000 DKKR is reached – but, they still need 20,000 DKKR. So even though they are so close to reaching the goal – there is still a little way to go yet.

If you are considering buying a copy of the magazine then you should buy it now. It is an all or nothing project, since it is being run through a crowdfunding campaign. That means that they need to reach their goal (which is 120,000 DKKR before Sunday March 4th) or else all the money will just go straight back to those who have supported the project, and the magazine will not become a reality.

sustain yearly

If you are still wondering whether or not to buy the magazine, then I can tell you a little bit about what’s in it and why I think you should support it.

The magazine is made to inspire people to live a more sustainable lifestyle and it’s filled with inspirering articles, interviews, guides, recipes, beautiful pictures and so much more. If you support this project you can thereby help a sustainable lifestyle get spread out to even more people (not just in Denmark, but all around the world – because if funded, the magazine will be available in both Danish and English).

Have you already got your copy? Or are you still considering it? (then just don’t wait too long)

CHALLENGING YOURSELF AND STEPPING OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

After my first skiing holiday, I got reminded again how amazing it feels to try something which might scare you and then being able to accomplish it. After the first day on ski with our ski instructor I was ready for a mental breakdown and could cry at the simple thought of having to try an even bigger challenge the next day. But, wow it feels so good when you conquer your fears and you do what you was afraid to do. It feels amazing. I could also just have said no to go on a skiing holiday with my boyfriend and his family out of fear that “I can’t do that”, but I chose to do it and tried it and I ended up learning it and actually finding it pretty funny.

I’ve had so many of these experiences in my life, and almost every time I challenge myself I get so happy when I’m out on the other side, and sometimes I might fail but then I realise that that wasn’t really that bad either – and I was so happy that I actually tried it.

To come up with another example – I’ve been asked to come and hold a speech about sustainable living together with Johanne and Emma from Sustain Daily, and my first thought was “oh no, I get so afraid when I have to speak in front a lot of people”. Just to give you an example, throughout my school years (primary school and high school) I could seriously consider not going to class just because I knew we were going to hold a presentation. I was seriously so afraid of it.

I’ve learned to live with that fear, not that it’s completely gone, but it’s gotten much, much better after having been through several oral communication courses and oral exams at my university, and now I know that the worst thing that can happen is really not that bad at all.

My best advice is, that if you never try it, you will never figure out if it is something you might actually enjoy. You might not enjoy it at all, but if you do not try it, you’ll never know and that’s a shame if it could be something that would actually end up being something you love to do.

It’s healthy to step outside your comfort zone once in a while and challenge yourself. I’m not saying; you need to become an adrenaline-junkie and go cliff diving all the time. Not at all. You know yourself best, and it might just be simple things, such as speaking in public, that really scares you – try to challenge those fears.

And just remember, that the worst that can happen, is really not that bad at all. People might laugh at you, or you might fall and hurt yourself. But so what? Everything will pass, don’t let that stop you from trying. And let me tell you, if you worry too much about what others might think of you – most people are too busy thinking about themselves, and if they laugh at you or say something not very nice to you, it’s most likely that they have an insecurity themselves.

I hope that this might inspire you a bit to go out and try those things that you’ve been wanting to try. Don’t be afraid to fail, you’ll only learn more and gain more from making mistakes and it will only benefit you. If you haven’t watched J.K. Rowling’s speech about failure, then go watch it right now – it is so good (I might be a bit biased, because I love Harry Potter and almost everything Rowling does, but I truly think this is so inspirational).
