INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT?

You might have heard the expressions ‘introvert’ and ‘extrovert’, and you might already know which one you are, or if you are a mix of both, or perhaps you have never heard these terms in your life before.

Today I wanted to write a little bit about introverts and extroverts, and identifying what you are and what those close to you are and learning to accept and respect people as they are.

Basically introverts are people who enjoy being alone, having their alone time and get more physically and mentally exhausted when they spend too much time with other people.

Extroverts, are the opposite. They love spending time with other people and get more energy out of this.

And then there are those in the middle, which is a little bit of both. They both enjoy time alone, but they sure also love spending time with other people.

I’m for sure a bit of both, but leaning more towards the introverted side. I love spending time alone. I love reading, writing, watching a good movie or documentary, going for a walk. I truly enjoy my own company and have no problem spending hours alone. But I also love, in smaller doses, to spend time with other people. What I enjoy most is spending time with a few close people for a couple of hours. Whenever I spend an entire day with lots of people I get so drained and tired both mentally and physically.

But enough about me. I wanted to talk about the importance of knowing yourself, and knowing your closed ones. Fx if you are an introvert and don’t really are aware of it, and you spend a lot of time with other people then you might start to feel sick, get annoyed or frustrated with others. When this start to happen you might start to get more irritated and say things you don’t mean or appear angry with others, which of course can lead to lots of conflicts. But, if you know yourself well enough then you can learn to say to yourself that “I’ve had enough, I need time for myself”.

If your friends and families know you, and know how your personality is and what you can and cannot handle, and they love you – then they will respect this. They will know that it’s nothing personal and it’s not you being angry or frustrated with them as persons, but it’s just you who cannot handle anymore because of how you are as a person.

I find it so important to know myself and my boundaries, just like I like to know my friends, families and boyfriend’s. I also find it important to simply just let my closed ones know how I’m feeling and what I can handle. If you are spending time together and you start to feel like you need to go home and sleep, or you simply want to be alone, just tell them. Let them know where you are at. Most people will understand, it’s more the unknowing part of what is happening inside a person that can be frustrating, but if you simply say “I’m really tired, so I think I’m gonna go home now”, chances are that everyone can understand.

If you are interested in learning more about yourself as a person, then I can recommend this test, I found it truly spot on. According to this test I am an “Advocate” (INFJ) – and I found that everything that was written fit me so well. And if your friends and families are into it as well, then make them take the test as well and read each others results. It’s so fun to get to know your closed ones more personally, and learn to understand them much more.

I hope this wasn’t too rambling, and it made sense in a way. Do you know what you are? An extrovert or an introvert? And have you tried taking the personality test? Which one were you?

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s been forever since I last shared an ‘interesting things’ post. But sometimes there just isn’t that much inspiration, and then I’d rather just wait until I have some than just share something which I don’t really find that interesting. I hope you can find some inspiration in the 3 things I want to share with you today.

And, remember, if you have found anything interesting (links, articles, videos, documentaries, books etc.) please just share them with me, I would love to know!

1. UN environment #CleanSeas Break-Up PSA: “it’s not me, it’s you” video about breaking up with plastic. I love this, it’s hilarious – and yet also something we all need to take seriously to protect our seas, and our Planet. I love that the UN has made this video!

3. Organic Olivia’s youtube channel – I just found this girl yesterday and I love her channel. She’s all about holistic and natural health and beauty, she also has a video about how to do a gua sha facial massage

4. Sustain Yearly, the sustainable lifestyle magazine, is now SO close to reach its goal on kickstarter! If you haven’t bought your copy yet, go and support it! (*10 minutes after I wrote this, they reached the goal! Sustain Yearly 2nd year is becoming a reality!)

SUSTAIN YEARLY MAGAZINE – ONE WEEK LEFT!

As I’ve already written about once before in here, the sustainable lifestyle magazine Sustain Yearly is running its crowdfunding campaign at the moment and now there’s only 1 week left!

More than 400 people have backed the project so far and the 100,000 DKKR is reached – but, they still need 20,000 DKKR. So even though they are so close to reaching the goal – there is still a little way to go yet.

If you are considering buying a copy of the magazine then you should buy it now. It is an all or nothing project, since it is being run through a crowdfunding campaign. That means that they need to reach their goal (which is 120,000 DKKR before Sunday March 4th) or else all the money will just go straight back to those who have supported the project, and the magazine will not become a reality.

sustain yearly

If you are still wondering whether or not to buy the magazine, then I can tell you a little bit about what’s in it and why I think you should support it.

The magazine is made to inspire people to live a more sustainable lifestyle and it’s filled with inspirering articles, interviews, guides, recipes, beautiful pictures and so much more. If you support this project you can thereby help a sustainable lifestyle get spread out to even more people (not just in Denmark, but all around the world – because if funded, the magazine will be available in both Danish and English).

Buy your copy and support the magazine here.

Have you already got your copy? Or are you still considering it? (then just don’t wait too long)

CHALLENGING YOURSELF AND STEPPING OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

After my first skiing holiday, I got reminded again how amazing it feels to try something which might scare you and then being able to accomplish it. After the first day on ski with our ski instructor I was ready for a mental breakdown and could cry at the simple thought of having to try an even bigger challenge the next day. But, wow it feels so good when you conquer your fears and you do what you was afraid to do. It feels amazing. I could also just have said no to go on a skiing holiday with my boyfriend and his family out of fear that “I can’t do that”, but I chose to do it and tried it and I ended up learning it and actually finding it pretty funny.

I’ve had so many of these experiences in my life, and almost every time I challenge myself I get so happy when I’m out on the other side, and sometimes I might fail but then I realise that that wasn’t really that bad either – and I was so happy that I actually tried it.

To come up with another example – I’ve been asked to come and hold a speech about sustainable living together with Johanne and Emma from Sustain Daily, and my first thought was “oh no, I get so afraid when I have to speak in front a lot of people”. Just to give you an example, throughout my school years (primary school and high school) I could seriously consider not going to class just because I knew we were going to hold a presentation. I was seriously so afraid of it.

I’ve learned to live with that fear, not that it’s completely gone, but it’s gotten much, much better after having been through several oral communication courses and oral exams at my university, and now I know that the worst thing that can happen is really not that bad at all.

My best advice is, that if you never try it, you will never figure out if it is something you might actually enjoy. You might not enjoy it at all, but if you do not try it, you’ll never know and that’s a shame if it could be something that would actually end up being something you love to do.

It’s healthy to step outside your comfort zone once in a while and challenge yourself. I’m not saying; you need to become an adrenaline-junkie and go cliff diving all the time. Not at all. You know yourself best, and it might just be simple things, such as speaking in public, that really scares you – try to challenge those fears.

And just remember, that the worst that can happen, is really not that bad at all. People might laugh at you, or you might fall and hurt yourself. But so what? Everything will pass, don’t let that stop you from trying. And let me tell you, if you worry too much about what others might think of you – most people are too busy thinking about themselves, and if they laugh at you or say something not very nice to you, it’s most likely that they have an insecurity themselves.

I hope that this might inspire you a bit to go out and try those things that you’ve been wanting to try. Don’t be afraid to fail, you’ll only learn more and gain more from making mistakes and it will only benefit you. If you haven’t watched J.K. Rowling’s speech about failure, then go watch it right now – it is so good (I might be a bit biased, because I love Harry Potter and almost everything Rowling does, but I truly think this is so inspirational).

HOW TO REGAIN YOUR MOTIVATION

motivational journal

There’s nothing better than feeling inspired and motivated to do something. Whether that be eating healthy, going zero waste or exercising regularly – am I right? But, this feeling of motivation can sometimes fade after a while.

I’ve found that the best way to regain your motivation (at least for me) is to either watch some inspirering and motivating videos or documentaries, or to read a book concerning the subject you want to regain your motivation upon.

Sometimes I can start thinking “does it really matter whether if I buy my skincare products in plastic?” or something like that. When I begin to feel like this once in a while, I know that it’s time to look at the things that got me into these values in the first place.

So, then I start to watch documentaries about how the environment is being destroyed by human actions, or I choose to watch inspirering Lauren Singer and how she makes living zero waste look so easily and fashionable – and not long after, I’ve fully regained my motivation and determination to do something about whatever it is that I want to do.

You might know what your values are, but it can be so easy in a busy everyday life to get distracted and start to not care that much about certain things – and therefore, I find it so important to keep yourself reminded by watching movies, documentaries, reading books or watching youtube videos which keeps reminding you of why you chose to do what you do.

A tip for you, is to write down:

– a list of why you want to do these things

fx I will not buy products sold in plastic, because I do not want to contribute to more plastic in the world

– a list of what you can do to improve within the areas where you are clear on your values

fx I keep a list of zero waste goals, and then one by one, slowly, I try to focus on a new habit and implement it into my life

– a list of movies, documentaries, books etc. which you know will inspire you

Keep this list for those days where you need a reminder, and just watch a quick youtube video that inspires you, or watch a bunch of documentaries

What is your best way(s) to regain your motivation? And which things in life excites you the most?

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s Wednesday and time for some things I’ve found interesting lately. Hopefully, you can also find some inspiration in these things. You are very welcome to share if you have any interesting articles, videos, books etc. !

1. Video “Why Humans are so bad thinking about Climate Change

2. Rotten – new Netflix serie, which shows some of the more horrifying sides of certain businesses

3. Dr. Michael Greger’s TED Talk – Food as Medicine

4. Speaking of Dr. Michael Greger, he has also created an app called “Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen” where you can keep track of getting some of all the healthy essentials you need in a day, I’ve used it for a couple of days now and I love it, and it reminds me to really get those greens, flaxseeds etc.

5. Speaking of flaxseeds – watch this video about the amazing benefits of adding flaxseeds into your daily diet!

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s time for some of the things I’ve found interesting during the last period of time. You can find an article, a hidden message in the new Star Wars movie, a repost of my old blogpost and, yet again, another TED talk! I hope you will find some inspiration in this.

1. This article, (sorry, only in Danish) about a comparison between Game of Thrones and our current climate crisis, is genius!

2. I saw the latest Star Wars movie (the Last Jedi) in December, and wow there was such a clear vegan message throughout several scenes during the movie. Not to mention that the star Actress who plays Rey is vegan herself, just like Luke’s mother, aka Natalie Portman is vegan in real life. I love how more and more movies and series are having an underlying vegan message. Just try googling “star wars vegan” and see all the hilarious pictures that come up

3. I just wanted to repost my blog post about the importance of voting with your money. I’ve really become a believer of this concept, and I LOVE to look at new small, Danish stores which have a sustainable approach. I have a whole list of small stores I want to visit!

4. Lucie Fink’s TED talk about how we all just need to start trying, without the expectations of being perfect at something, is wonderful! Also, if you haven’t watched Lucie’s youtube serie where she tries different things for a week, then you should definitely watch it, it’s fun and encouraging.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TIPS

It’s January and a new year, and there’s no better time to start getting into lots of healthy habits to live your best life! I fully agree that we are all different, and that it might not be in your interest to get into healthy habits, I completely respect that. But, I do want to say that if you want to feel better, look better, feel more energised and productive and hopefully also feel much better once you get older – then these are some of the tips that might help you achieve all of that!

Here you go, some healthy lifestyle tips:

Get enough sleep

Preferably 7-8 hours each night, and the best is to get to bed before 10pm. Turn of the television and electronics at least 1 hour before going to bed since the electric blue light disturbs your body and makes it harder for you to fall asleep. Read a book, or have a good talk with a loved one instead.

Eat alkaline food

Eat plenty of vegetables and beans! Especially the green vegetables (broccoli, spinach, kale etc.).

Highly alkaline food:
– green vegetables
– green salad and seaweed
– potatoes
– sprouts, nuts and seeds
– sesame- and flax seeds
– almonds and brazil nuts
– pumpkin seeds and coconut
– garlig, turmeric and ginger
– avocado
– herbal teas, green and white tea
– olive-, coconut- and flaxseeds oil

Avoid acidic food

Meat, sugar, candy, sodas. If your body gets too much acidic food it creates an unhealthy and inflamed environment in your body where sickness, pain and overweight can grow.

Very acidic food:
– meat
– eggs
– sugar and honey
– artificial sweeteners
– vinegar
– dairy products – especially cheese
– industrial processed food
– junkfood
– margarine
– frying oil
– candy and cakes
– alcohol
– black tea and ordinary coffee
– sodas
– fruitjuice
– energy and sportsdrinks

Drink lemon water

When you wake up in the morning drink some hot water with the juice from half a lemon. This helps the digestion and it detoxes the body. After drinking this wait at least 1/2 hour before eating breakfast.

Drink lots of water during the day, but not while you are eating

Drink 2 litres of water or more during the day, but not while you are eating since this disturbs the digestion process and the absorption of the nutrients from the food.

Chew your food thoroughly and eat slowly

Chew your food until it becomes liquid before you swallow it. If you don’t chew the food enough, acid will be created in the body.

Exercise – move your body

Move your body, get your pulse up and sweat out all the toxins from your body. Moving, fx through yoga, also massages your organs and makes your body function better and creates more blood flow and improves digestion. It also releases endorphins which is a “happy hormone”, which makes you feel happier.

Drink herbal tea

Switch the coffee out with some herbal tea (fx green tea).

Mental health

Think happy and nice thoughts about yourself. Start to really love yourself and your body just as it is right now. Think that you want to take good care of your body by filling it with lots of healthy food, so it will be fresh and healthy all your life. Look yourself in the mirror each day and tell yourself that you love you <3

Do things that you love

Read, relax, go for a walk in nature, dance, talk, go to a spa a sauna – do things that makes you happy and spend your time with people who makes you feel good and who you love.

Take care of your body

Use natural products, and smear your body into oils. Drybrush your skin. Give yourself a nice oil massage on the body, in the face and your scalp Take a nice bath, scrub your skin. Just relax.

These were some of my favourite health tips for taking good care of oneself and ones body. I do want to notice that it’s all about balance. There’s no health in restricting yourself to only eat vegetables all the time, listen to your body and treat yourself once in a while as well, that is also healthy for your soul.
Please share some of your favourite health tips as well!
