HOW TO REGAIN YOUR MOTIVATION

motivational journal

There’s nothing better than feeling inspired and motivated to do something. Whether that be eating healthy, going zero waste or exercising regularly – am I right? But, this feeling of motivation can sometimes fade after a while.

I’ve found that the best way to regain your motivation (at least for me) is to either watch some inspirering and motivating videos or documentaries, or to read a book concerning the subject you want to regain your motivation upon.

Sometimes I can start thinking “does it really matter whether if I buy my skincare products in plastic?” or something like that. When I begin to feel like this once in a while, I know that it’s time to look at the things that got me into these values in the first place.

So, then I start to watch documentaries about how the environment is being destroyed by human actions, or I choose to watch inspirering Lauren Singer and how she makes living zero waste look so easily and fashionable – and not long after, I’ve fully regained my motivation and determination to do something about whatever it is that I want to do.

You might know what your values are, but it can be so easy in a busy everyday life to get distracted and start to not care that much about certain things – and therefore, I find it so important to keep yourself reminded by watching movies, documentaries, reading books or watching youtube videos which keeps reminding you of why you chose to do what you do.

A tip for you, is to write down:

– a list of why you want to do these things

fx I will not buy products sold in plastic, because I do not want to contribute to more plastic in the world

– a list of what you can do to improve within the areas where you are clear on your values

fx I keep a list of zero waste goals, and then one by one, slowly, I try to focus on a new habit and implement it into my life

– a list of movies, documentaries, books etc. which you know will inspire you

Keep this list for those days where you need a reminder, and just watch a quick youtube video that inspires you, or watch a bunch of documentaries

What is your best way(s) to regain your motivation? And which things in life excites you the most?

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s Wednesday and time for some things I’ve found interesting lately. Hopefully, you can also find some inspiration in these things. You are very welcome to share if you have any interesting articles, videos, books etc. !

1. Video “Why Humans are so bad thinking about Climate Change

2. Rotten – new Netflix serie, which shows some of the more horrifying sides of certain businesses

3. Dr. Michael Greger’s TED Talk – Food as Medicine

4. Speaking of Dr. Michael Greger, he has also created an app called “Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen” where you can keep track of getting some of all the healthy essentials you need in a day, I’ve used it for a couple of days now and I love it, and it reminds me to really get those greens, flaxseeds etc.

5. Speaking of flaxseeds – watch this video about the amazing benefits of adding flaxseeds into your daily diet!

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s time for some of the things I’ve found interesting during the last period of time. You can find an article, a hidden message in the new Star Wars movie, a repost of my old blogpost and, yet again, another TED talk! I hope you will find some inspiration in this.

1. This article, (sorry, only in Danish) about a comparison between Game of Thrones and our current climate crisis, is genius!

2. I saw the latest Star Wars movie (the Last Jedi) in December, and wow there was such a clear vegan message throughout several scenes during the movie. Not to mention that the star Actress who plays Rey is vegan herself, just like Luke’s mother, aka Natalie Portman is vegan in real life. I love how more and more movies and series are having an underlying vegan message. Just try googling “star wars vegan” and see all the hilarious pictures that come up

3. I just wanted to repost my blog post about the importance of voting with your money. I’ve really become a believer of this concept, and I LOVE to look at new small, Danish stores which have a sustainable approach. I have a whole list of small stores I want to visit!

4. Lucie Fink’s TED talk about how we all just need to start trying, without the expectations of being perfect at something, is wonderful! Also, if you haven’t watched Lucie’s youtube serie where she tries different things for a week, then you should definitely watch it, it’s fun and encouraging.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TIPS

It’s January and a new year, and there’s no better time to start getting into lots of healthy habits to live your best life! I fully agree that we are all different, and that it might not be in your interest to get into healthy habits, I completely respect that. But, I do want to say that if you want to feel better, look better, feel more energised and productive and hopefully also feel much better once you get older – then these are some of the tips that might help you achieve all of that!

Here you go, some healthy lifestyle tips:

Get enough sleep

Preferably 7-8 hours each night, and the best is to get to bed before 10pm. Turn of the television and electronics at least 1 hour before going to bed since the electric blue light disturbs your body and makes it harder for you to fall asleep. Read a book, or have a good talk with a loved one instead.

Eat alkaline food

Eat plenty of vegetables and beans! Especially the green vegetables (broccoli, spinach, kale etc.).

Highly alkaline food:
– green vegetables
– green salad and seaweed
– potatoes
– sprouts, nuts and seeds
– sesame- and flax seeds
– almonds and brazil nuts
– pumpkin seeds and coconut
– garlig, turmeric and ginger
– avocado
– herbal teas, green and white tea
– olive-, coconut- and flaxseeds oil

Avoid acidic food

Meat, sugar, candy, sodas. If your body gets too much acidic food it creates an unhealthy and inflamed environment in your body where sickness, pain and overweight can grow.

Very acidic food:
– meat
– eggs
– sugar and honey
– artificial sweeteners
– vinegar
– dairy products – especially cheese
– industrial processed food
– junkfood
– margarine
– frying oil
– candy and cakes
– alcohol
– black tea and ordinary coffee
– sodas
– fruitjuice
– energy and sportsdrinks

Drink lemon water

When you wake up in the morning drink some hot water with the juice from half a lemon. This helps the digestion and it detoxes the body. After drinking this wait at least 1/2 hour before eating breakfast.

Drink lots of water during the day, but not while you are eating

Drink 2 litres of water or more during the day, but not while you are eating since this disturbs the digestion process and the absorption of the nutrients from the food.

Chew your food thoroughly and eat slowly

Chew your food until it becomes liquid before you swallow it. If you don’t chew the food enough, acid will be created in the body.

Exercise – move your body

Move your body, get your pulse up and sweat out all the toxins from your body. Moving, fx through yoga, also massages your organs and makes your body function better and creates more blood flow and improves digestion. It also releases endorphins which is a “happy hormone”, which makes you feel happier.

Drink herbal tea

Switch the coffee out with some herbal tea (fx green tea).

Mental health

Think happy and nice thoughts about yourself. Start to really love yourself and your body just as it is right now. Think that you want to take good care of your body by filling it with lots of healthy food, so it will be fresh and healthy all your life. Look yourself in the mirror each day and tell yourself that you love you <3

Do things that you love

Read, relax, go for a walk in nature, dance, talk, go to a spa a sauna – do things that makes you happy and spend your time with people who makes you feel good and who you love.

Take care of your body

Use natural products, and smear your body into oils. Drybrush your skin. Give yourself a nice oil massage on the body, in the face and your scalp Take a nice bath, scrub your skin. Just relax.

These were some of my favourite health tips for taking good care of oneself and ones body. I do want to notice that it’s all about balance. There’s no health in restricting yourself to only eat vegetables all the time, listen to your body and treat yourself once in a while as well, that is also healthy for your soul.
Please share some of your favourite health tips as well!

REFLECTING ON THE YEAR THAT PASSED

I’ve already been writing down in my journal some of my reflections for the past year, but then I thought that some of these things might be interesting for you out there to follow along with as well. Here are some of the things which have had the biggest impact on my life in 2017:

Zero waste

2017 was the year that I learned about Zero Waste. I had NEVER heard about this concept, before I came across Lauren Singer from trashisfortossers on Youtube, and I fell head over heels in love with the concept and how Lauren made it look cool while at the same time doing something amazing for the planet. So, I started doing a lot of researching about this and saw a ton of youtube videos and read blogposts about this concept and started to change things in my own life.

I’ve already changed lots of things in 2017, I have changed to a menstrual cup, a shampoo bar, I’ve started to change my skincare and bodycare products for products that come in glass or steel instead of plastic, I’m still using a reusable water bottle which I’ve done for many years actually, I’m using reusable cotton bags whenever I’m buying groceries, I’ve switched to bamboo toothbrushes instead of plastic brushes and I’ve started trying to make a lot of homemade skincare products as well.

These are just some of the things which I’ve been changing, but the biggest one is just my mentality. I had honestly never thought about before how I could make a positive change in my life besides the usual advices such as”turn off the lights when you don’t use it” and “don’t shower too long”. It has encouraged me to really believe that I can make much more of a difference in my everyday life than I first thought possible, and I’ve also started to realised how I can show the world what I want to support by using my money. I’ve started doing a lot more research before buying anything new, I want the brands do be sustainable and ethical, and I especially want to support more local brands.

Friendships

2017 was also the year where I learned to reach out to new people with the same interests as me. I gotta make a shoutout to Ida for making me more open towards this. Ida was the one asking me if we should grab a cup of coffee in the beginning of the new year. I gotta admit, I was kind of nervous about meeting something for the first time whom I had only been writing with on Instagram.

But this had probably been one of the most life changing things for me. Because I came to realize that it really isn’t that frightening. I mean, what is the worst that can happened? That the two of you don’t get along, well then you can just stop meeting up anymore. And wow how I’ve met some inspirering new people through Instagram and my blog. I’ve met Ida, which is now one of my very close friends. I’ve met Anna, Cathrine and Cirkeline. I’ve also met some of the girls from Sustain Daily, and become a part of Sustain Daily influencers thanks to Instagram. And I’m constantly thankful for all those commenting and messaging me on Instagram or my blog, I absolutely love connecting with like-minded people, it is truly amazing and inspirering. Thanks to all of you out there.

Health

2017 has been one of the best years when it comes to my health both physically and mentally. I’ve learned a lot more about yoga, spirituality, ayurveda, hormones, the menstrual cycle and so much more! I’ve finally realized that the best way to be healthy is to have the connection between both the physical and the mental aspect. You will never be really healthy if all you do is eat strictly healthy, train all the time and just do things for the sake of your ‘outer appearance’ or physical health. Life is ALL about balance. It can be just as healthy for you to go on a café with your best friends, your loved one or your mom and just talk and eat a delicious cookie and drink a latte. Everything in moderation, but life is all about balance and it should not be about restricting yourself. Find out what makes you the happiest, and make sure to do these things regularly – life is made out of the small everyday things, and we should strive for bringing those small things into our lives as much as possible.
2017 was also the year I chose to stop taking birth control pills after having done a lot of research about how damaging this is to our bodies and how much it can affect our mood and our overall happiness, and I can already say after just 1 month without birth control pills that I’m feeling so much happier.

I feel unbelievably blessed for this past year and what I’ve experienced, and how my mentality has changed and for what I have learned. I want to take some days off from the blog for the rest of this year to take time to be with my family and friends (and work on some exams), and then I’m absolutely positive that I will return in the new year with lots of new content and inspiration.

I also want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you out there following along, both in here and on my Instagram, and thanks for engaging – it means the world. If there is anything you would like to see more of in the new year, then share your thoughts and ideas with me! I wish you all the best Christmas and a Happy New year – see you very soon! (btw, I’m still going to post some things on my Instagram, but the blog will take a little break and be back in the new year).

20. Give money to a charity organisation
If you’re going to give a gift to someone who loves animals, then give the money to a charity which supports animals, or refugees or something else, and give a little card where you mention how the gift has helped someone else in need.

Do you have any other great gift ideas? And what is on your wishlist for Christmas?

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s Wednesday and you know what that means? Time to share some of the interesting things which I’ve found in the past week! I’ve found a lot of videos this week, both one about decluttering, an encouraging one and one about a brand! And also a little plastic free challenge.

1. From clutter to clarity TED talk. Love this TED talk (gotta admit that I love most TED talks), but this is a lovely talk about how decluttering your life can improve your life.

2. Meghan Markle’s encouraging speech at the UN Women conference is wonderful. I love it, not so much because of the equality topic (even though that is amazing as well), but mainly because it shows how individual’s small actions can make a huge difference.

3. Lee from leefromamerica is having a plastic free challenge, and I love her blog post about the challenge!

4. I’ve already written about Miild make-up a couple of times in here and on my Instagram, but if you want to learn a bit more about the girls behind the brand and their reason for starting the company, then watch this lovely video.

Have you found any interesting things the past week? Please share them with me!

INTERESTING THINGS

It’s Wednesday and time for sharing some things with you guys! I’ve found some highly interesting, and very different, things for you this week. If you’ve anything interesting you would like to share, please feel free to share them below in the comments.

1. An Inconvenient Sequel – this is Al Gore’s 2nd documentary (first one called ‘An Inconvenient Truth’), which is all about climate change and the horrifying situation we’re in. I need to see this as soon as possible!

2. Cathrine is hosting a New Year’s event with Marie from Carrotstick.dk, come join if you want to start the new year with a fresh and healthy start!

3. I love this little experiment with girls wearing no make-up. How do you feel about not wearing make-up? I have no problem going to buy groceries, or just going for a walk, but I gotta admit going to school or work I always put on just a little bit of make-up

4. Have you ever thought about what you want to become when you die? Do you want to get burned or buried? I know for sure what I want to! I want to become a tree. I absolutely love the idea of turning myself into a tree when I die and thereby give something back to Earth and help the climate (I know death isn’t the most exciting thing to talk about, but when I came across this company I just knew that was what I wanted to do once that time comes – hopefully many, many years from now)
