In my little journey to live a more sustainable life, I’ve changed a few things in my everyday life. As you might have noticed (if you have been following along in here) I’ve slowly over the past half year tried to switch some of my old products out, once I was done using them, for some more sustainable options. I have switched out cotton pads for reusable cotton pads, menstrual pads for a menstrual cup, plastic bags for compostable bags, plastic bags for a bamboo travel case, to-go cups for a reusable to-go cup, plastic straws for stainless steel straws and stearin candles for soy candles.
This time, it was time for switching out my regular razor. Normal razors come with plastic and all the shaving blades you buy come in plastic as well and cannot be recycled, which is of course not good for the environment. And this is why the more sustainable option, a safety razor, comes into the picture!
Why switch to a safety razor?
A safety razor is made out of steel, and the same are the blades. The blades can therefore be recycled once you’re done using them.
Cheaper in the long run
Not only is a safety razor better for the environment, it is also a lot cheaper in the long run. They can be a little expensive to buy the actual razor, but that is only a one time investment, and you can also find some cheap ones secondhand. But the blades you have to buy for them afterwards are incredible cheap compared to what you’ve been used to, if you’ve been using a regular shaver before.
Have you considered switching to a safety razor? Or, do you already have one? And in that case, what are your thoughts about them?
