MY FAVOURITE HEALTH BOOKS

I was asked the other day if I wanted to share some of my favourite health books, and of course I want do! Health is one of my biggest passions in life. I LOVE to read about it, watch documentaries about it etc. and learn new information. I’ve read several books about this subject, but these are some of my absolutely favourite ones. There are books about hormones, what food to eat to make your skin look beautiful, what food is good for improving digestion, natural contraception methods, yoga and ayurveda, herbs and just learning more about what food to eat, and what food to eat less of, if you want to have a healthy body.

1. Womancode – Alisa Vitti*
I read this book recently, and I love it. I feel like I’ve learned SO much about women’s cycles in it, and how to stabilise hormones and avoid hormonal imbalance. Definitely a must-read for women, especially if you are just getting off the birth control pill and want to stabilise your hormones back to normal again.

2. Beauty foods – Sally Walker & Laura Bonné*
I love to read about what specific foods does for our body, our health and how we look. This book goes into depth with different food which is amazing to eat for our health and how we look.

3. Hormonel harmoni – Caroline Fibæk & Stine Fürst*
If you want to learn more about stabilising your hormones, or finding out what kind of hormonal imbalances you might have, then this book is great. It also has a little test where you can identify where you might have a hormonal imbalance.

4. Taking charge of your fertility – Toni Weschler*
When I first started thinking about quitting the birth control pill, I lend this book from my friend, and wow. This was when I started to learn about more natural ways of protecting yourself from getting pregnant, and just in general learn more about the female body and the cycle.

5. Et Pukka Liv – Sebastian Pole*
The founder behind the Pukka tea brand wrote this lovely book (A Pukka Life) about health, ayurveda, herbs and their benefits.

6. Food Pharmacy – Mia Clase & Lina Aurell*
A lovely book about what food to eat if you really want to be healthy, you’ll learn a lot more about probiotics, vegetables and much more.

7. Begynderyogabogen – Karen Pallisgaard*
If you are new to yoga, or want to learn about ayurveda, then this book is amazing. So easy to read, and yet filled with so much good information. I’m such a fan of Karen’s books, also Langsom Livsstil.

8. Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods – Anthony Williams*
This book is also about how food can change your life and make you healthy. It describes different food and how it affects your body and your health.

9. How Not to Die – Michael Greger*
If you’re interested in a plant based diet, this is probably one of the books most people will recommend you to read. Michael Greger is one of the ‘big nutritionists’ in the plant based field and have written this amazing book. The book comes with so much scientific evidence for how only a diet can prevent and reverse many of the causes of diseases-related death. Another one is The China Study by T. Collin Campbell & Thomas M. Campell, which is about a study made in China which showed how diet affected health.

I hope you can find some inspiration, and please also share your favourite health books with me – I’m constantly on the hunt for new amazing books to read!

EVERYDAY HAPPINESS

/This past week has been filled with lovely things, and unfortunately I’ve not been able to capture every moment on camera. But I’ve spend time with some lovely friends, my family, been to a birthday in Jylland and been the dentist (which really isn’t that exciting, but she told me my teeth’s looked fine, and that was of course good news) 😉

/I’ve bought some compostable bags from Maistic, and never in my life had I imagined that I would be so enthustiastic about something like that  – but look at me now, being overly excited about everything that has to do with sustainability!

/I’ve been drinking tea, tea, tea – and some more tea! And some matcha latte’s, and a single cup of chai latte on a café while I was reading homeworks. That is probably the best thing about the weather getting colder, that you have a good excuse for drinking warm drinks all the time!

/I’ve been reading this interesting book “Beauty Foods*”, which I can recommend for all interested in natural beauty (we are talking vegetables, water, vitamins, minerals etc. – as you know, beauty comes from within).

/I’ve begun with some aromatherapy at home, and I’ve used this lavender essential oil* in a little bowl with water in the evening, while drinking a cup of herbal tea and read in a good book – and that really is the perfect recipe for calming down and getting ready for a good night’s sleep!

MY NEW BOOKS

For my birthday I had wished for a lot of good books, and lucky as I am, I got each and everyone of them! I look so much forward to read them all, and gain new knowledge, or be entertained. I thought I would share them with you, in case you could get some book-inspiration for your next reading.

1. Papmaché-reglen – Hella Joof *

/ This book is in Danish

2. Mastering Your Mean Girl – Melissa Ambrosini *

/ Melissa Ambrosini is the woman behind the podcast The Melissa Ambrosini Show, which I’m a big fan of. And through that I found out that she had written a book about learning to be kind towards yourself, and thereby get more out of life, so I had to own that book.

/ After one of my lovely talks with sweet Ida, I learned a new term ayurveda. I had never heard about this before, but it is a form of alternative treatment method which has especially been used in hinduismen. The focus is on treating the sicknesses and other things from a holistic point of view. It’s not just about taking a pill whenever you feel sick and then it will go away, but rather about finding the root cause for why you are feeling the way you are, and then treat this. It’s such a fascinating way of thinking, and something that I want to learn much more about, so I googled which books talked about this topic and came to Deepak Chopra, which I have already read a little bit about in the past. I really look forward to digging deeper into this subject and get some more knowledge within this field.

5. Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods – Anthony William *

/ I heard about this book through one of Ellen Fisher’s youtube videos, and since I love healthy food and is highly fascinated by the magnificent powers that different fruits and vegetables have, I thought that I simply had to own this book!

GOOD BOOKS – THE HAPPINESS PROJECT

I finally read through Gretchen Rubin’s book “The Happiness Project”, and I’m a fan! Mostly because Gretchen reminds me so much of myself, in the way she describes the facts she has collected within different subject, and how she decides to try to implement these in her life, which I can truly recognize from myself.

The Happiness Project is about Gretchen Rubin who want to bring more happiness into her everyday. She does that by starting a project that shall last a year. One year dedicated to becoming a happier person. She does this by dividing each month into different topics, such as ‘marriage, work, parenthood, friendship’ etc. Every month she learns about ways to improve the different topics, and she tries to implement these things. It’s a really lovely book, and you gain a lot of knowledge about all kind of things, which Gretchen has learned through her research.

It’s a super good book if you are interested in happiness and joy, and doing small things everyday which you can do to improve your life. I’m all-about that, and therefore I loved it. On Gretchen’s website she also has a section called ‘Your Happiness Project’ where she helps you get started on your own little happiness project.

BOOKS I WANT TO READ

1. How Not to Die – Dr. Michael Greger

2. The War of Art – Steven Pressfield

Jeg har førhen læst bogen “Do the work” af samme forfatter, og den var enormt inspirerende. Ligesom “Do the work”, så omhandler “The War of Art” også om at forfølge sine kreative drømme.

3. The Magic of Thinking Big – David Schwartz

4. Money and the Law of Attraction – Ester and Jerry Hicks

I love, love, love to read and gain new knowledge, or just get entertained in the form of a good story. However, the last couple of years I’ve been crazy into gaining new knowledge within the fields of self development, health, nutrition and wellness. I love to see what other people read, especially people I find inspirering. And I thought that I would share some of the books that I plan on reading in the near future. It might inspire some of you to what you could read next time. And please share your book recommendations in the comment section, I love to get new inspiration!

But here you have some of the books I want to read in the near future (believe me, the list is much longer, so more of these posts will come):

1. How Not to Die – Dr. Michael Greger

I got this book as a birthday present last year. But it is such a heavy one, so I have not read anything in it yet (but I have read a thousand other small books instead). But once I get a bit more time I’m going to dig into this and read it. Dr. Michael Greger is a true spokesperson for eating a plant based diet for the sake of your health. And in this book he goes into depth with what kind of food is bad for you, and what is good for you.

2. The War of Art – Steven Pressfield

I’ve read the book “Do the work” by the same Author, and it was very inspirering. Just like “Do the work”, this book is about following your creative dreams. It touches upon the subject that many of us are too scared to actually chase our true dreams and follow our passion.

3. The Magic of Thinking Big – David Schwartz

This book should be about dreaming big. It’s about not setting low standards for your life and just live a mediocre life, but instead dream big, and not least, go after making those dreams come true.

4. Money and the Law of Attraction – Esther and Jerry Hicks

You immediately think that this book is about money, and how to attract more money when you look at the title. But this book should touch upon several topics of your life, such as health, career, relationships etc. It goes into depth with how to understand and how to use ‘the law of attraction’, and it should be really good with explaining the principles behind this philosophy.

5. Perfect Health – Deepak Chopra

This book is about the indian medicin system, also known as Ayurveda. This is only something I’ve just recently learned about, and which I still have a lot more to learn about. But, as I have understood, it’s about that if you want to be healthy and well, you need to look upon the body from a holistic point of view – you need to take more things into account when treating a disease. It does not work just to take a pill for something, instead you need to dig deep and find the root of the sickness inside you. It’s a bit hippie-ish, but really interesting, and I definitely think that some of it is true. So this subject is something I want to learn much more about, and I’m planning to begin with this book.

How not following Your Dreams, can keep your Passion Alive

skaermbillede-2016-11-02-kl-14-16-23

So, I’ve had this post in my mind for a long time. But I didn’t quiet know how I should formulate myself clearly. Because the title might sound a bit demotivating and kind of a dream-killer, but trust me, I’m all in for following your dreams and passions. But, for about a month ago I read this book called Big Magic – creative living beyond fear written by Elizabeth Gilbert. And it has changed my view upon dreams.

Let me start by telling you, that ever since I was very small, I’ve always loved to write. There was nothing better than having to write stories and essays in elementary school. I completely loved to create stories. When I was 13 years old I came up with an idea for a bigger story and ever since that day, my goal and my dream has been ‘that when I get big, I’m going to become an Author’. And trust my, the dream is still alive. After high school I was so in doubt about what to do. I considered applying for the Author school here in Copenhagen and following my dream. However, I’ve always had the thought in the back of my mind ‘what if you don’t succeed, and suddenly you cannot earn any money and you cannot live’. So instead I chose to apply for Litteratur science on Copenhagen University as my first priority. However, my grades weren’t high enough, and I ended up on English and Organisation Communication at Copenhagen Business School. Which is something completely different. But, I do believe this ended up being the right thing for me.

Back to the book. Elizabeth Gilbert does not recommend that you have your creative dreams and passions as your primary job. And that is because of the simply reason that you get ‘dependent’ on creating something. You’ll become financially dependent on having to create something good all the time. And that is just physically impossible. Because creativity does not come to us all the time. And putting that kind of pressure on your creative side, that it has to be good all the time, so that you can make money out of it – might eventually kill your desire to create and be creative, and thereby kill your passion for the field.

And that I do certainly not want to end up with. I love to write, and I always have. And I never want to get to that point where it becomes annoying, or something that I just ‘have to do’. I do not write that much anymore, because I have a million other things to do. But when I write – I love it so much.

But I’m hereby not saying that I’ve given up on my dream to become an Author. It’s still there. But I see it more as an free time activity, than I’m seeing it as a full time job. I have a finished story laying around, and I’m working on getting it published. I believe that I will succeed with it eventually. And if not, that’s okay. The most important part is that I keep writing – because I like to. And that I keep creating for myself, and that I’ll always love being creative.

With all that being said, I just want to recommend everyone to read Elizabeth Gilbert’s book. It’s amazing!
