CONNECT WITH NATURE

Sometimes all we need is just to step outside and be one and connect with nature. So today I don’t want to write a lot, but I will rather post some lovely pictures I took on a wonderful walk in nature a little while ago.

“Nature itself is the best physician” – Hippocrates

Sometimes we tend to get too stuck inside our heads, and it’s all bubbled up with all the things we have to do, be etc. Whenever you start to feel like this, take a break and just get outside in nature and just BE.

Sit under the sun. Feel the fresh air on your skin. Feel the rain on your head. Sit under a giant tree. Feel the Earth beneath you. Listen to the birds sing. Just be there.

GET OUT IN NATURE AND GET GROUNDED

I have recently read, heard and seen a lot about getting more in contact with nature. I have always been aware of that some of the best moments in my life have been outside in nature where I have felt the sun, wind or water on my body. But recently I have discovered how fantastic it actually is for us.

I recently saw a documentary on Gaia.com which was about getting grounded and getting in contact with nature. It was about how getting in contact with nature – touch the Earth – can have a healing effect on us. For some this might sound a bit woo-woo, and some might think that it is just something we imagine that nature is able to heal us. And perhaps – but what difference does it make? As long as you get better.

“Getting grounded” is also something which are focused upon within the yoga discipline. And in last week I attended a yoga workshop with Cathrine where she had focus on getting grounded and get in contact with nature as a way to calm down, relax and get away from the stress we can tend to have in our everyday lives.

I can clearly feel a huge difference on the days that I get outside in nature, and on the days that I just sit inside and work on my computer all day. There is a HUGE difference.

So this is simply a little reminder, both to myself, and to you, to get more out in nature. Walk barefooted in the grass or the sand, touch a tree, feel the wind in your hair, jump into the ocean and become one with the waves. And enjoy it!

ZERO WASTE LIVING

As you can sense, I am not very good at staying completely away from the blog. However this will not be a very long post, but I thought that I could share some of the things, and people, who inspire me, and that you might gain some inspiration from this/them. The other day I discovered Lauren Singer, which is a girl from New York who lives by the zero-waste principal.

It’s about avoiding to throw out, or produce, any kind of trash in your everyday life. And you have to say that she is doing amazing, all the trash she has produced throughout the last 4 years can fit into a mason jar glass! Really impressive, and so cool. I don’t think I’ll be able to live as her, but I’ve already become a lot more conscious about how much I throw out and waste, and I’ll definitely try to improve in different areas. Lauren also has a youtube channel, and a blog where you can find lots of inspiration. But I wanted to share this really inspirering TED-talk she has held, with you.

CLIMATE CHANGE – WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOW

This is a topic that really touches me. And when I then hear Trump who does not care about this at all, and I figure out that there are people who just don’t care at all, or don’t believe in global warming, I become so sad. Because global warming is real – and it is here now, it is happening now, and we can see it all around the world in the form of raising water levels, the temperature is rising, hurricanes, drought and much more.
It is clear, that if we want to save the Planet, that we have to do something NOW.

If you don’t already know Al Gore, he is an environmental activist, which have fought to get climate on the agenda for many years. He was vice president during Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001, in 2006 he released his documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and he has supported Obama and his initiatives about fighting global warming. Now he is about to release another documentary called An Inconvenient Sequel, which is a request for, especially the new president Donald Trump about not concealing the climate initiatives, because we simple cannot afford to do that. Action needs to be taken now if we want to save the Earth.

It is scary to see his movie, and see how much humanity have destroyed the Earth in such a short amount of time. And no one is perfect, but we can all do our part in reducing the CO2 emission as much as possible, and try to do our best in taking care of this amazing Planet.

I’ve made a little blog post about things which you can do in your everyday life to reduce your CO2 emission, and save the planet.

I would recommend you to watch the above trailer, and if you don’t anything about global warming, then really try to learn more about this and do your research. When you do this, you quickly understand how serious the situation is, and how important it is that we do something. I hope that this can inspire you to think more about your day to day actions.

KNIT YOUR OWN DISHCLOTH

As mentioned earlier in here, I try to do my part in not hurting the planet too much. But one thing I had never thought of before as being damaging, before a friend mentioned it – is how damaging once-use dishcloths are for the environment. I had never thought of this before. But, these dishcloths contain plastic, which will either be flushed out, hang in the air, go down the drain or into our food.

But you can choose to use some knitted dishcloths and thereby not harm the environment. But I cannot brag about being very good at knitting, but then it’s good that I’m so lucky to have both a grandma and a mother-in-law which have knitted me both dishcloths and dish towels! So those we have started used instead.
So go and ask someone you know if they will knit you a dishcloth, or maybe you can knit it yourself, and thereby do a little extra thing for the environment. Remember a lot of small good actions, ends up resulting in something bigger. It’s the small things you do everyday that makes a different.

Did you know that the one-time dishcloths were harmful for the environment? And is there any other thing that you should think about changing in your home? Please comment if you know about anything!

How You can Save the Planet

If there is something I want to do, it is to help save our planet. It is very clear, that we seriously need to do something in order to avoid destroying our planet, which we are about to with our giant emission of CO2. Sometimes this can seem quiet impossible, because how are we as one single person gonna be able to do enough to save the planet? But, I choose to look at it in this way, if more and more people start doing some small things in their everyday, then it all counts up, and then it will have a larger effect than you can imagine.

I’m thereby not saying that something bigger doesn’t need to happen – we need our politicians to focus more on green energy, and a lot more which I probably don’t know enough about. But I do know some things which I can do in my everyday life to reduce my CO2 emission – and I’d like to share them with you, in the hope of that more and more could take some of these small actions to them and contributing to saving planet Earth.

What you can do to save the planet:

– use a textile net when you are shopping, and say no to plastic bags

– turn off the lights and all electronic devices when you are not using them

– in Denmark we can choose to say no to physical commercials in our mail, and thereby limit the amount of paper that we throw out. You might have an option like this in your country as well.

– you can cut down on your meat consumption. The meat industry pollutes a lot, especially red meat. So if you do eat meat, try choosing chicken instead, because the chicken industry is not polluting as much.

– keep your things in a longer time, and recycle them or sell them when you do no longer want them, so others can get joy out of them.

If you have other good ideas on what you can do in order to reduce your CO2 emission in your everyday life, then please share them!
