STRETCH YOUR BODY

“Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live“.

I’ve throughout all of my childhood and most of my youth been dancing, several times a week. So I’ve always felt really flexible as I was younger. I stopped dancing in my 3rd year of high school, and since then I’ve mainly been focusing on strength and condition training in the gym, or running outside. In the beginning I didn’t think much about that I became less flexible, but about 2 weeks ago, I realized how inflexible I had become. Which is very obvious, because if you don’t practice flexibility, you will get less flexible.

I’ve never had any problems with touching my toes when I was stretching, but suddenly I noticed, that this started to get harder. I could not live with that, so since I realized that I’ve been doing some small stretching exercises every morning. Not that many, but just a little bit every day. Besides that I’ve planned together with my friend to take a yoga class at least once a week.

I want to keep my body in in shape both when it comes to condition and shape, but also when it comes to flexibility. “Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live”. This quote reminds me of, time after time, which choices I need to take in my life. I want my body to function, be healthy and well throughout all of my life – also when I am 80 years old!

So remember to move your body, and take care of it – but also remember to enjoy life!

Sitting is the New Smoking?

Har I hørt om udtrykket “Sitting is the new smoking”?

Have you heard about the saying “Sitting is the new smoking”? I’ve crossed this saying a couple of times now. And it terrifies me. As a student I spend most of my days sitting in lecturers, or reading all day long, and I’m thereby sitting down most of the days. And while I also care a lot about my body and my health, this contradicts a bit. I read this article, where scientists have found out, that sitting, as much as people do nowadays, can lead to cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Therefore, I really need to do something about this. I want to move more, and get out and go some more walks. So I do not end up sitting on my chair reading homeworks all day. Also just for my own sake, because the days can be quiet sad, if all you do is sitting and staring into your computer screen or a school book.

My intention with this post was actually most to bring some more awareness towards this topic, which I think many don’t think about in their everyday life. But also to bind myself and get something done about this. It somehow just seems more binding to write it, black on white, that I want to do something about it and get some more exercising done and move my body. And then I hope to inspire some of you to move yourself, for your own and your healths sake.

Do you also sit down most of the day? Or do you have any good tips or routines on how to get moving throughout the day?
