MY MORNING ROUTINE

Having a morning routine is a great way to start the day on a more calm and positive note, which can mean that the rest of your day turns out a lot better, than if you just jump out of bed and go straight to work. I’ve finally found a morning routine that is simple and easy, but also makes me feel so much better after I’ve done it, so today I want to share my morning routine with you.

If you are into self development, which you probably are if you are following along in here, then you might already know this, you will quiet possibly have discovered that many ‘successful people’ (read: successful in terms of reaching the goals they had sat for themselves, because we should not define success on X amount of money or anything like that, but rather on succeeding in reaching your own dreams) have morning routines. A morning routine sets you up for a great start to the day, and that great start has an amazing influence on how the rest of your day turns out – because if you start of well, you’ll fell happier and more at peace, and you’ll be ready for whatever the day brings you!

I’ve been trying for years to create a morning routine that I could stick to, but as a ‘vata’ person (read my blogposts about ayurveda if you don’t know what I’m talking about), I have a hard time sticking to routines – but, routines are actually what is really good for people like me, because it helps to keep me grounded and make sure that I actually get things done. And now I’ve finally found a morning routine which is simple, easy and manageable, and which makes me extremely happy and calm – it’s the perfect way to start the day!

My morning routine

Wake up

First thing first, I gotta wake up. During the week it’s usually around 6.30/7

Tongue scraping

Then as the first thing I go to the bathroom and I scrape my tongue with a tongue scraper. I scrape my tongue around 10 times.

Wash face & lotion

Then I wash my face with water and moisturise my face with some oil/lotion.

Tea & Affirmation Meditation

Afterwards I go to the kitchen and make myself a cup of green tea. I take the tea with me into the living room, get myself cozy under a blanket and find a random page in my book “You can!” by Louise Hay, which is a book filled with affirmations. I set my phone on the timer for 5 minutes and read through some of the affirmations and do some meditations with focus on these lovely affirmations – it’s an amazing way to start the day, and it really just warms and lights me up!

Here are some of my favourite affirmations:

“There are possibilities everywhere. I have an abundance of choices”

“I know I can create miracles in my life”

“My potential is unlimited”

“Life ensures that all my needs are met with abundance. I trust in life”

“When I forgive myself it becomes easier to forgive others”

“When I change my thoughts, the world around me changes”

“I am grateful for my healthy body. I love life”

Gratitude list

After meditation I bring out my journal and write around a page of all kind of things I’m grateful for, from the smallest to the biggest things. The most important thing is that I take time to really feel gratitude after having written the things down.

(Yoga)

Around 3-4 times a week I also do some yoga after the above little morning routine, to stretch and connect with my body.

Then I make myself some breakfast, and finish off with brushing my teeth. It’s a really simple morning routine, and without the yoga it only takes around 20 minutes or so, but it really ensures that I start my day on a much better note than if I just went straight out of bed and onto what the day held.

That was my morning routine. Do you have a morning routine? Or would you like to implement one? Then try to start with just one thing you want to do each morning, and then you can always add more things on later.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY!

If you truly want to see results in any area of your life, then I have one very important tip for you – consistency is key!

The concept of staying consistent is something I’ve encountered from many ‘self development gurus’ over the years. It might seem simple, but it can for sure be challenging, especially when you don’t feel like you’re getting anything out of it and it’s more tempting to just quit and do something else. But many times it’s just when we’re about to give up that results are coming.

It might be easier to understand if we take some examples.

Take action and stay consistent

If you want to work on losing weight, and you are training and eating healthy but you just don’t feel like you’re getting anywhere and instead you decide that it just doesn’t work and you give up and fall back into your old habits. Changing things, and especially your appearance, can for sure take time, so you need to stay consistent with the habits of eating healthy and moving your body.

Or, perhaps you want to improve your flexibility, then it won’t be enough with just practicing some yoga once every month, you need to practice it more and do it over a longer period of time.

Let’s take another example, perhaps you want to grow your business or your amount of followers on your social media sites. You put up content, but you just don’t feel like it’s getting you anywhere, so you give up and stop posting regularly.

But you need to stay consistent with posting and putting out quality content, and stay patient – because eventually people will find you, but they only want to follow along if they can rely on you and if they are sure that you’ll provide content regularly that they can follow, otherwise they’ll disappear again. I can vouch for this myself, I’ve posted on my Instagram and blog for several years now, but it wasn’t until I started posting more regularly and stayed consistent with it that several people started to follow me.

Focus on the long-term rather than the short-term

There are SO many examples out there of why staying consistent is the KEY to gaining whatever you want. This picture below is one of my favourite reminders to why you need to stay consistent and keep trying if you truly want something!

I hope that this little ‘pep-talk’ has motivated you to take action and staying consistent, and eventually you will see that things will come your way!  Whether that be losing weight, publishing a book, clearing up your skin, growing your business or whatever you dream of! Find out what steps you need to take to get there, and then keep going and stay consistent!

A LITTLE CHRISTMAS BREAK

I’m going to take a little Christmas break from the blog, but I’ll be back again in the New Year!

The last couple of months has consisted of plenty of exams, finding a master thesis supervisor and handing in the contract for the master thesis, lots of work and finding Christmas presents, so to say the least, there has been a lot going on. I’ll therefore take a little Christmas break, and spend loots of lovely family time, reading some lovely books, watch some good movies (I’ve currently started a Harry Potter-marathon with my friend, so excited!), and just be present in this lovely Christmas time. Therefore I won’t make blogpost in here before we hit 2019.

But, sometimes it’s a good idea to unplug and recharge. This can give you new motivation, inspiration and energy. If you ever feel like you are getting tired of doing something- then try to take a little break. Most often I find that after a short period of time away from something I regain my motivation and inspiration and I am eager to start again.

Thank you!

So, I just want to finish this year off with saying a HUGE thank you to all of you lovely people following along! There have come so many new people along this year, and I’m beyond blessed and grateful for you all, and I’m so happy that you can find some inspiration here.

Please also always just let me know if there is anything you want to read about, or if you have any questions.

Now all I have to say is – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I’ll see you all again in 2019 (which is a year I’m beyond excited about!) <3

PS, if you need some reading during the Christmas, then I have 2-3 years of content on this blog, so feel very free to browse through! You can read about the power of breathing, 7 cozy winter self-care practices, how to find your soul sisters, what a lady-comp is, my favourite health books, 10 ways to cut down your plastic use and so much more!

WRITE A LETTER OF GRATITUDE

Gratitude. I have written so much about this topic before, but it truly is wonderful to show and feel gratitude, for both the bigger and the smaller things in life. One of the best practices I have come across is to write a letter of gratitude.

When I first discovered ‘the power’ of gratitude, one of the exercises that had the biggest impressions on me and my life, was to write gratitude letters to people who have had an impact on my life. It could both be positive and negative impacts, the important thing was just to write letters to people who had taught me something important about life, and who had had an impact on my life and made me who I am.

In the beginning I wrote these letters for myself, so the people I wrote to never received these words of gratitude, but just the feeling of expressing my gratitude towards these different people had a huge impact on my life. Whether it was for being grateful for what certain people had taught me, or if it was to forgive someone for something they had done which had affected me.

I wrote letters (in my diary), to all kinds of people. To my old Danish teacher in elementary school for cheering on me to “never stop writing“, to my dancing teachers who I looked so much up to when I was younger, to people in high school who was just awesome, to my family members (mom, dad, sis etc.), to my mom’s cousins’ who treated me with so much love like I was their own daughter, to people who disappointed me or just showed me how I did personally not want to be like, to my boyfriend whom showed me true love and happiness, to all the amazing authors who have inspired me with their stories – and so many other people.

“We met for a reason, either you’re a blessing or a lesson” – Frank Ocean

Later on I started to share more of these letters with the people I really loved. I love expressing gratitude and love in the form a personal letter, whether that be to my mom, sister, dad, boyfriend or my friends. The best thing is to see their responses, and see people get touched by my gratitude for them – there is really no better feeling in this world. I can highly recommend to share those words that you might have inside your head, with people that mean something to you. Just think about how happy and grateful you get, when someone says or writes something kind to you.

Try this Gratitude Practice Yourself

  • Write a letter of gratitude to 10 people who have had an impact on your life.
Remember, you don’t have to show these letters to anyone else than yourself – but if you feel like it, I can definitely recommend sharing the letters with those you love.

7 COZY WINTER SELF-CARE PRACTICES

Winter is just around the corner, it actually snowed a little bit in Denmark the other day! That calls for lots of cozy times and self-care practices, to help with the mood and make the cold and dark Winter times a bit more enjoyable.

Here are 7 Cozy Winter Self-Care Practices

1. Drybrush your Skin

During Winter your skin tends to get a lot more dry. Something that can help with this is dry brushing your skin (preferably every day, or just before you take a shower). Dry brushing helps mildly exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells.

2. Use a Moisturising Body Butter

In coherence with dry brushing, what your skin would really love during the Winter is to get massaged into a really moisturising body butter after having taken a shower. I have a delicious and very easy recipe for a body butter right here, and you can also find a simple guide to it under ‘highlights’ on my Instagram.

3. Take a Footbath

Is there anything better than snuggling under a blanket, with a cup of tea, and a warm footbath while watching a good movie? I absolutely that I love this. Winter is the perfect time to give your feet some love, especially now that they are locked inside big boots for many months. I like to make a footbath with some epsomsalt and lemon juice.

5. Light a Candle

Winter time calls for candles. Am I right? It just creates such a cozy and comforting vibe to see candles lit inside your home.

6. Time for Tea

I can basically drink tea all year long, but Winter time especially calls for those warm drinks. Whether that be herbal teas, hot cacaos or a delicious smelling chai lattes. Pour yourself a warm drink, grab a blanket, light the candles and engage in a lovely book, your favourite movie or have a great talk with your best friends.

7. Yin Yoga

I might be a bit biased here, but Cathrine (my boss) has really showed me the wonders of Yin Yoga. Yin yoga is a very slow and deep yoga practice. You stay in each pose for 3-5 minutes, and you thereby get really deep into the stretches. It feels amazing, and it is so relaxing and it really calms you down. Yin yoga also calls for warm clothes and you usually finish off with a blanket over you in Savasana. You can either take a physical yin yoga class, or you can do it at home by fx using Yogavivo.

What are your favourite things to do during the Winter, to make life a little bit more enjoyable? Share them in the comments, and let’s inspire each other!

GIVE COMPLIMENTS!

Foto: Johanne Stenstrup /Bedre Mode

Don’t we all just love when people compliment us? We might not know how to handle it and get shy and embarrassed, but inside we all love when people compliment us either on what we do, what we say, how we look or something else. Just like you love getting compliments, others do as well. And here the saying “give what you want to get” is very relevant.

Think about, when was the last time you gave someone a compliment? Can you remember it? If not, then it’s definitely time to start getting into the habit of it. Not only will it lift others mood and make them happy, but it will for sure also make you happy. Just think about the joy of giving someone else a gift, and seeing how happy they get.

“Throw kindness around like confetti”

When I was in High School my best friends and I talked about this topic, and we challenged each other for a while to give at least 1 compliment every single day. And wow! This is just such a great practice – because not only did it light up someone else’s day, but you gain just as much yourself from seeing someone getting happy by something you did.

But, who to give compliments to, and about what?

You can literally give compliments to anyone about anything. Even the smallest things counts, and often we think about all these small things we like about others, but we simply keep them to ourselves and forget to say it out loud, even though it could make the world of a difference to someone else, and completely make their day.

“I love what you just said!”

“This drawing is beautiful!”

“I really like your shirt!”

“Your skin is glowing!”

“Thanks for your suggestions, they really helped me”

“Thank you for your kindness”

I loved this piece of writing

Thank you for cooking this delicious meal

I love your hair!

Thank you for your consideration, that means a lot to me

You see? There is no limit to whom and about what you can give compliments. And I know that it takes practice, I have to challenge myself all the time as well. Because I often think about a compliment to give someone in my head, but I sure do not always express it verbally, even though I know that this is only something that would make someone else’s day much better.

Are you good at giving compliments? Or, do you want to try to practice giving more of them?
Have you given anyone a compliment today? Otherwise, you still have time!

3 CURRENT FAVOURITE PRODUCTS

Hi everyone! It’s been forever. Big jokes on me when I last posted and said that I was going to start posting regularly in here again. Well, that did not happen, because then uni started again and I got a bit overwhelmed. But now I’ve gotten into a a better routine and I have LOTS of ideas scribbled down and blog posts planned that I want to share with you here on the blog.

First, I want to share 3 current favourites with you guys, which I’ve been absolutely loving lately!

🌱Matcha Latte

I absolutely love a (good) cup of matcha latte. Believe me, you can for sure also get some not-so-good ones out there (I’ve definitely tried that as well). But, a good cup of matcha latte is just a delicious, comforting drink to sip on. I love to have it on cafés or to make it at home during the colder months and then drink it while reading homeworks or doing some work. It just makes the day a little bit better (and I’m all about adding those small things into your everyday life that brings you more joy!).

🌱 Gua Sha Facial Massage

I had a little period of time where I forgot about doing gua sha facial massage, but I just got back into it again, and wow, I just really, really love it! And, I feel like I do such a great thing for my skin. It really stimulates the blood flow and circulation in your skin. I can recommend the Honesty Beauty Talk’s book where you can read and learn a lot more about the benefits of gua sha massages.

🌱 Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanse

As some of you might know, I have got a new job, in a health store – and I absolutely love being surrounded by healthy food products, supplements and natural skincare! A few weeks ago one of my colleagues recommended me to try the Antipodes Grapeseed Butter Cleanse, and I have fallen completely in love with it. This is the perfect cleanser, especially if you have dry skin, since it leaves your skin so smooth and soft afterwards! I feel like having a real spa night every night when I apply this to my face. It just smells divine and I love the little ritual with applying it in circular emotions, and then use a damped wash cloth over my face to gently remove it – it’s just the best!

What are your current favourites? Whether that be a new tea you have just tried, a book you have read recently, or something else! Share it in the comments and let’s us all inspire each other!

EVERYDAY HAPPINESS

It’s time to come back to some Everyday Happiness moments. I love seeing these posts at others blogs, and I really think it is such a lovely way to remember to take some pictures of the small, good things in life and be more grateful for even the smallest things <3

So, I want to start posting these kind of posts again, every Monday. I hope you’ll find some inspiration as well – either to do a little face mask and watch your favourite movie and relax, go and grab a cup of tea or coffee with your best friend, or go for a walk or to the movies with your family or your loved one. See this as an inspiration to sneak in some more moments in your everyday life that makes you happy – because that truly is what life is made of; the small little everyday things, so cherish these moments!

Our hallway in our apartment complex has been completely repainted and it has become so bright and pretty, I absolutely love it!

I had a Chai Masala tea with my mom and a little piece of brownie cake and just some mom-daughter-time. I love that <3

I’ve started in Fitness again! What a surprise, mainly for me. Last year I stopped in fitness because I was way too tired of fitness centres and the whole train-train-train mentality. But, lately I’ve just been feeling like really doing some energetic exercise and really get my pulse up, and sweating – so I’ve followed my body’s need and I’ve started in fitness again. And, I love it! I really feel SO good after getting a good sweat and getting a tomato-red-face. I, of course, still love yoga and stretching – and as my lovely boss says; it’s all about balance: yin & yang <3

There’s nothing better when the sun is shinning than a little walk around the lake and seeing the beautiful nature – and preferably with a good podcast in my ears!

I’ve always loved my family, but I think over the past years I’ve neglected my lovely big family a bit too much due to lots of work and school – but, I truly love my big family, and I love all the different personalities which I am so truly blessed to have in my life – and I really want to spend more time with them all <3 Here is a picture from last week where almost all the women from my mom’s side of the family had a Cinema trip. We watched ‘The Book Club’ (hilarious movie, and so sweet and loving!) and had dinner afterwards – such a great time!

How was your past week?

MY DAILY SELF-CARE ROUTINE

If you have been following me for a while, either here on my blog or on my Instagram, then you know how highly I value self-care practices. But what kind of self-care practices do I actually practice daily? I’m going to share some of my favourite daily self-care routines with you today!

A little while ago I shared this blogpost about my thoughts upon why I find self-care practices so important, and some tips on different practices you could start practicing in your everyday life.

But, what self-care practices do I actually personally practice daily? That is what I want to share with you today, and hopefully you can find some inspiration to sneak in some more self-care in your daily life.

My daily self-care routine

*Drink a cup of warm green tea

The first thing I do in the morning, is to drink a nice cup of warm, green tea. This is one of my favourite things to do. It is so simple, yet it makes me so happy. Just ask my boyfriend how happy I finally got the other day when it was finally ‘cold enough’ again to start drinking tea in the morning (because it has been so hot during this Summer in Denmark). There is just something so soothing and relaxing about a nice cup of warm tea, and I truly love that time of my day.

*Wake up early

Along with a good cup of nice tea, I really like to wake up early. Not that I need to get lots of stuff done in the morning necessarily, I just really like to have a slow, relaxing morning, where I can wake up slowly and eat and enjoy my breakfast without having to hurry and run out the door. This really makes such a huge difference for my mood. When I was younger I would rather sleep in, and then stuff some breakfast down my throat and run out the door – but then my mood would not always be the best. Nowadays I always plan to wake up at least 1,5 hours before I need to go anywhere, so that I can slowly wake up and start the day on a slow, lovely and good note.

*Have a lovely Skincare routine

I have always loved skincare and the whole practice of cleansing the face, moisturising it, facial massages etc. So I do my best to really take some time to enjoy this little practice in the morning and evening. It doesn’t have to be a long time, just 5-10 minutes of a relaxed time with just me and myself – a time where I really feel like I do something good for my skin and it’s a lovely way to relax and calm down, especially in the evening after a long day.

*Enjoy a Green smoothie

Taking care of myself also means taking care of my body and my health, and I’ve found the easiest way to do so is to get as many greens during the day as possible. It’s not always the easiest if you have a lot to do, but then I’ve found the most delicious recipe for a green smoothie, where I can thereby sneak in lots of extra greens during my day. You can find the recipe for my green smoothie right here – you have to try it!

*Spend time with loved ones

My day ALWAYS gets better when I spend time with my loved ones. Either friends or family. And luckily enough I also live together with my boyfriend and our cat. I am such a home-buddy, and I just absolutely love spending time with them – it makes me so happy and completely filled with love.

*Keep a Gratitude Journal

One of the best practices, which I’ve talked about a million times in here and on Instagram, is having a gratitude journal. I cannot express how much learning to be grateful for even the smallest things in life, has changed my life completely! So I strive for writing down a couple of things every single day that I feel grateful for – and then take a little second for every thing I write down, to really deeply feel the gratitude in my heart.

These are my personal favourite daily self-care practices. Do you also remember to take time to nurture yourself and your soul, and do what makes you happy? What are your favourite things to do? Feel very free to share them below in the comments!

CREATE A SPACE YOU LOVE

This is YOUR life, so why not create it and make it just as you like it! Create a space you love – and not just a physical space, but just as much a mental space you love.

Physically

Life is simply too short to surround yourself with things that doesn’t make you happy. Seriously, do you sit at home and just feel like “eh..” over your room, apartment or house? There is really no need to. Start clearing up and throw out all of the things that doesn’t make you happy (for this little project I can recommend Marie Kondo’s book ‘The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up“). Hereafter, everytime you bring something new into your life really think about if this is something that makes you happy and excited. Create a home and a create a feeling that inspires you and which makes you feel happy and at home.

I still have a few minor things I would like to change in our apartment, but overall I am so happy with the light and bright apartment my boyfriend and I have, all the plants I have, the himalayan salt lamps, the crystals, all my books and just everything! I really love our home. I especially love my little desk corner (yes exactly, the one on the picture above), which is where I sit most of the day and read homeworks, do work or write on blogposts – and with a cup of tea by my side, that is simply just the best! You know, the small pleasures of life, right?

Mentally

But now we talk about creating a space that you love, then I of course do not just mean the physical space, but just as much the mental space. You are the only person you need to spend your entire life together with. Just think about it for a second, you will always be together with YOU. Therefore, the best thing you can do in life is to learn to love yourself and love your own company. Become your own best friend.

But, how do you do that?

I know, it’s not just as easy-peasy as it sounds. We can be so cruel to ourselves “you look ugly”, “why did you say that?”, “and who exactly do you think you are?” – do you recognise the negative self-talk? I’ve done a tons of this, and I still work on this, but I have gotten so much better, and I love myself now and whenever I start thinking such thoughts I quickly turn them around and apologise to myself.

But Camilla you still didn’t answer the question, how do you actually learn to love yourself?

First of all, you need to start paying attention to the things you say to yourself. Start noticing every time you think negatively about yourself and then stop yourself right there. Become aware of it. Instead tell yourself something you love about yourself, it might be your smile, your eyes, your kindness toward others – anything, just focus on something positive instead. At first it can seem very forced and fake, but eventually you will start believing yourself.

A little exercise: Look yourself in the mirror and say “I love you”.

Do this every time you are at the bathroom, fx brushing teeth, cleansing your face or if you just pass a mirror – take a little moment, look at yourself and say these words – and try your very best to believe them, trust me, eventually you will learn to love and accept yourself just as you are.

I have lots of other ideas for things you can do to improve your wellbeing, but let’s say this is it for now. Try working on stopping your thoughts every time you find yourself thinking negatively, and do the little mirror exercise, and see how your life slowly starts to become happier, better and you will feel more confident!

By creating a mental space you love, also think about whether you spend your time on the things you love. Do you read books that you find interesting? Do you spend time in nature? Do you spend time with people who you like? Consider these things, and if the answer is not yes, then start changing things – or, if you do not know what you like, start to do some researching, explore – find out what it is that really makes you happy and excited and spend your time on these things!
