BOOK RECOMMENDATION – NATURALLY GORGEOUS

It’s time for another book recommendation, and this one I read in like 1-2 days, it is exactly what I LOVE to read about: health and beauty and natural ingredients which doesn’t harm you or the planet. The book is called Naturally Gorgeous and is written by Charlotte Vøhtz which is also the creator behind the brand Green People. I really find Charlotte’s story inspirering, she started her brand Green People because her daughter got eczema and they couldn’t find any products which she could use, so Charlotte created her own brand.

I got this as a birthday present from my sweet friend Ida, and she really knows me, because if I should have written a book, then this is basically what I would have written. It’s all about avoiding toxic ingredients in your skincare and food, eating nourishing food, drinking water and herbal teas, lots of suggestions for natural skincare, recommendation for dry brushing, DIY recipes for skincare products etc. You get the drill.

If you love natural skincare and beauty as much as I do, and I almost bet you do if you follow me either here on my blog or on Instagram, then you would for sure love this book as well.

English version of the book: Naturally Gorgeous – Essential Health and Beauty Secrets*

Danish version of the book: Sund og Smuk – uden tilsætning*

WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR NATURAL BEAUTY

Beauty. It is something most of us strives for, and it can easily become something which gets obsessive and unhealthy, which I’m for sure not a fan of. I rather want to think of beauty as learning to love yourself as you are, and doing small things to enhance your natural beauty and get in better contact with yourself and your body.

Therefore, I thought I would share some “natural beauty tools” which can be used as a way to enhance your natural beauty, better your health and which can be used as a way to connect with yourself and learn to love and accept yourself as you are.

Ways to enhance your natural beauty

Drybrushing

Dry brushing is a wonderful thing which you can do both on your face and your skin. Dry brushing is a practice where you use a dry brush on your dry skin to gently brush your skin. This helps to get rid of dead skin cells and gets your lympathic system going, which brings new oxygen to your cells. I use this dry brush for the body* and this for the face. I dry brush my body (almost) every time before showering, and I use my facial brush 4-5 times a week in the morning before washing my face or anything.

Gua Sha

A gua sha is a crystal which you use to “scrape” your face or body with. Gua Sha is said to stimulate blood flow and healing. Like many others massages gua sha stimulates blood flow and makes your skin a little bit more red, which is a good sign, because this only means that blood flow is going. When your blood flow is circulating, this brings more oxygen to your skin, and makes your skin start to “work”, which can both heal your skin and makes your skin more firm. I use this one, and use it 4-5 times a week, mainly in the evening after having removed my make-up and having put some oil on my face. It’s the perfect thing to do to wind down in the evening, with a cup of tea and a good serie.

Oil massage

Oil massage is a wonderful thing! It’s so calming, soothing and moisturising for your skin. It is also the perfect way to connect with yourself and give yourself some selflove. Set some time aside to just listen to some calm music, or watch your favourite TV show, or after having taken a shower and rub yourself into oil all over the body and give yourself a gentle and loving massage. Keeping your skin moisturised will prevent it from becoming dry and flaky, and if you’ve got a bit of a tan in the summer it will also ensure that you keep the tan for a longer period of time.

Yoga

Yoga has also become one of my favourite ways to enhance my body’s natural beauty. How? you might think. Well, after having been to several of Cathrine’s yoga classes I’ve learned more and more about how, at least yin yoga, stimulates the connective tissues, and how this is also a way to reduce cellulite. Yoga is also a way of getting energy flowing in the body, which works in the same way as the dry brushing by bringing oxygen to your cells which will enhance your skin by looking more vibrant and glowing. I also find that yoga really calms me down, which is another amazing thing, because a stressed out mind is one the worst things for your skin, because this can also make you break out.

Fresh air

Fresh air is almost self-explanatory. But by getting fresh air, you get new oxygen into your body which is so good for your health – and in my belief, whatever is good for your health, is also good for your natural beauty.

Healthy food & water

This is probably the most important one when it comes to natural beauty if you ask me. Because you can do plenty of face masks etc., but if you don’t eat good, healthy, nutritious food, chances are your skin will not look very healthy. Of course there are several people that are blessed with good genes, which can eat lots of crappy food and still look amazing, but many of us (myself included) are not as lucky. I can instantly see on my skin if I’ve been eating good, nutritious, nourishing, healthy food or filling my body with chips, cakes and cafe lattes. It shows so quickly.

Being happy and doing what you love

This is so important. Your skin will light up by itself if you follow your passion, do things you love, spend time with people you love and find interesting. Just like your skin is vibrating and glowing when you are in love. Do what makes you happy and spend your time on whatever YOU want, it is your life after all.

Relax

As mentioned before, a stressed out skin are more prone to breaking out. Learn to relax, take time off to wind down and just do nothing. I have a hard time with this myself, I always feel like there are thousands of things I could do or that I want to do, so I’m really working on just letting myself relax and do nothing once in a while.

What are your favourite natural tools to stay healthy, vibrant and be the best version of yourself?

HOMEMADE MOISTURIZING FACE CREAM

I just tried making my own face cream the other day, and it turned out really well. I asked you guys on Instagram if you wanted the recipe, and that was a solid yes! So, here you go!

The recipe is made with only 4 natural and pure ingredients and water. Simply, easy and you are then assured that you only put good ingredients on your face. Because remember, whatever you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body. Therefore I want to use as pure ingredients as possible.

The face cream is very moisturising, and perfect for dry winter skin. This cream is also perfect if you have very sensitive skin, because all the ingredients are very gentle and soothing.

If you are not used to putting oils on your face, then you might find the cream a bit too greasy to use as a day cream, but it sure is perfect for a very moisturising night cream.

face cream

Ingredients

  • 50 g almond oil
  • 10 g sheabutter
  •  6 g bee’s wax
  • 50 g water
  • a few drops of vitamin E oil (optional)

*Shea butter is known for repairing skin and boosting collagen

How to do it

It is so simple, you just put all the ingredients into a double boiler and melt it all together. Once it is all melted, you put it into the freezer for 15-20 minutes. Then you take it out and use a mixer to blend it all together until it has a nice, smooth consistency. Then use a spoon to scoop it into a glass or tin container, and voila you’ve got yourself your very own face cream!

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR HAIR RINSE

If you’ve read my blog post about transitioning to using a shampoo bar instead of a conventional shampoo, then you know that my hair felt so weird after the first time I tried it. After that first time I did some research on how to make the transition period easier, which resulted in that blog post. And one of the tips that I found was to use an Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) hair rinse after you’ve used your shampoo bar, as kind of a ‘conditioner’ for your hair. And, oh my, it helps! My hair doesn’t feel dry after using the shampoo bar any longer as long as I finish off with an Apple Cider Vinegar hair rinse.

I just take around 1/3 cup of organic Apple Cider Vinegar (I use this one*) and then fill the rest of the cup up with water. Then I pour this over my hair after I’ve finished using my shampoo bar and rinsed that out. I let it sit for about 3 minutes and then wash it out.

My hair is still adjusting to the shampoo bar, but this method seriously helps a lot – and, I’ve also found that there are quiet a few benefits to using an Apple Cider Vinegar hair rinse!

Benefits of using Apple Cider Vinegar hair rinse:

– it functions as a natural detangler
– it is antibacterial and great for your scalp
– it adds shine to your hair
– it stimulates hair growth and prevent hair loss
– it prevents split ends

Health Sustainable & Conscious living

ELIMINATING TOXINS FROM YOUR LIFE

Toxins are small molecules, peptides or proteins that are capable of causing disease on contact with or absorption by body tissues. Toxins are something which affects you and your body’s health and you should strive for avoiding them as much as possible in your everyday life if you want to be as healthy as possible. However, it can be difficult in our age today, because we are exposed to toxins almost all the time without us even being aware of it. But, if you learn which things you can change in your everyday life in order to get less exposed to toxins, then this is a great way to begin if you want to live a healthier life.

Here are some of the different areas in your life where you should be aware of toxins.

Skin, body and hair products
Some of the first things to look at when trying to eliminate toxins from your life are all the products you use on your skin, hair and body. Such as shampoo, conditioner, cleansers, cremes, body lotions, toothpaste, deodorant, make-up etc. You can strive to buy products with more natural ingredients, or you can simple make your own natural products and in that way be completely sure that they only contain natural and pure ingredients.

Cleaning products
This is an area many people might forget about when trying to clean out in their products at home. But this area is so important, since you clean everything with these products, the sink, your food plates, your kitchen surfaces where you prepare food etc. All these cleaning products that you use in these places will somehow get in contact with you as well.
Here you can find some of the natural cleaning products you can use instead.

Food
Go for organic food and thereby avoid food which is sprayed with a lot of pesticides. Pesticides does absolutely nothing good for your body.

Clothes
The clothes you wear is in constant contact with your body, and regular clothes is also full of chemicals. Therefore you should go for buying organic clothes if you really want to avoid as many toxins in your life as possible.

Have you thought about these things before? Or, is there any other area that you think should have been included as well?

Make Your Own Natural Face Mask – BANANA HONEY

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Today I have made a little video where I give you the recipe for a homemade face mask.
The face mask consist of 1/2 banana, 1 tsp of honey and 5 drops of lemon juice.

This face mask is really good if you have dry skin, because it hydrates the skin. Besides that it also has an anti-aging effect, and it helps prevent pimples and acne. I use the face mask for about 10 minutes, hereafter I rinse it off with water and put on some oil (almond or coconut) in my face.
