7 COZY WINTER SELF-CARE PRACTICES

Winter is just around the corner, it actually snowed a little bit in Denmark the other day! That calls for lots of cozy times and self-care practices, to help with the mood and make the cold and dark Winter times a bit more enjoyable.

 

Here are 7 Cozy Winter Self-Care Practices

1. Drybrush your Skin

During Winter your skin tends to get a lot more dry. Something that can help with this is dry brushing your skin (preferably every day, or just before you take a shower). Dry brushing helps mildly exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells.

 

2. Use a Moisturising Body Butter

In coherence with dry brushing, what your skin would really love during the Winter is to get massaged into a really moisturising body butter after having taken a shower. I have a delicious and very easy recipe for a body butter right here, and you can also find a simple guide to it under ‘highlights’ on my Instagram.

 

3. Take a Footbath

Is there anything better than snuggling under a blanket, with a cup of tea, and a warm footbath while watching a good movie? I absolutely that I love this. Winter is the perfect time to give your feet some love, especially now that they are locked inside big boots for many months. I like to make a footbath with some epsomsalt and lemon juice.

5. Light a Candle

Winter time calls for candles. Am I right? It just creates such a cozy and comforting vibe to see candles lit inside your home.

 

6. Time for Tea

I can basically drink tea all year long, but Winter time especially calls for those warm drinks. Whether that be herbal teas, hot cacaos or a delicious smelling chai lattes. Pour yourself a warm drink, grab a blanket, light the candles and engage in a lovely book, your favourite movie or have a great talk with your best friends.

7. Yin Yoga

I might be a bit biased here, but Cathrine (my boss) has really showed me the wonders of Yin Yoga. Yin yoga is a very slow and deep yoga practice. You stay in each pose for 3-5 minutes, and you thereby get really deep into the stretches. It feels amazing, and it is so relaxing and it really calms you down. Yin yoga also calls for warm clothes and you usually finish off with a blanket over you in Savasana. You can either take a physical yin yoga class, or you can do it at home by fx using Yogavivo.

EVERYDAY HAPPINESS

Denne forgangne uge har stået på masser af rare ting, og jeg har desværre ikke fået taget billeder af alt. Men jeg har set nogle skønne veninder, min familie, været til fødselsdag i Jylland og et tandlæge tjek (hvilket ikke er det mest spændende, men tænderne var fine, så lidt glæde kom der jo også ud af den besked) 😉

/This past week has been filled with lovely things, and unfortunately I’ve not been able to capture every moment on camera. But I’ve spend time with some lovely friends, my family, been to a birthday in Jylland and been the dentist (which really isn’t that exciting, but she told me my teeth’s looked fine, and that was of course good news) 😉

Jeg har købt komposterbare poser fra Maistic, og aldrig i mit liv havde jeg egentlig troet at jeg kunne være så entusiastisk omkring sådan et køb, men så ser man mig nu og nu er jeg hylende begejstret for alt hvad der har med bæredygtighed at gøre!

/I’ve bought some compostable bags from Maistic, and never in my life had I imagined that I would be so enthustiastic about something like that  – but look at me now, being overly excited about everything that has to do with sustainability!

Jeg har, som altid, drukket te, te, te – og lidt mere te! Og lidt matcha latte, og en enkelt chai latte på café mens jeg læste lektier. Det er nok noget af det bedste ved at vejret bliver koldere, at så har man en god grund til at drikke varme drikke hele tiden!

/I’ve been drinking tea, tea, tea – and some more tea! And some matcha latte’s, and a single cup of chai latte on a café while I was reading homeworks. That is probably the best thing about the weather getting colder, that you have a good excuse for drinking warm drinks all the time!

Jeg har læst i denne spændende bog “Beauty Foods*”, som kan anbefales til alle der er interesserede i naturlig skønhed (vi snakker grøntsager, vand, vitaminer, mineraler osv. – som i ved, så kommer skønhed jo indefra)

/I’ve been reading this interesting book “Beauty Foods*”, which I can recommend for all interested in natural beauty (we are talking vegetables, water, vitamins, minerals etc. – as you know, beauty comes from within).

Jeg er startet på lidt aromaterapi herhjemme, og har brugt denne lavendelolie* i en lille skål med vand om aftenen, samtidig med jeg har drukket en kop urte te og læst i en god bog – og dét er altså den perfekte opskrift på at falde til ro og blive klar til en god nats søvn!

/I’ve begun with some aromatherapy at home, and I’ve used this lavender essential oil* in a little bowl with water in the evening, while drinking a cup of herbal tea and read in a good book – and that really is the perfect recipe for calming down and getting ready for a good night’s sleep!

Så er det mandag, og tid til endnu en omgang af den forgangne uges små og store glæder!

/It’s Monday again and time for another round of the past week’s small and big joys!

Jeg var inde og se dokumentaren River Blue i  Empire Bio til et arrangement som Sustain Daily afholdte. Efterfølgende var der lidt bæredygtig tøj debat og after party hos Res Res lige overfor biografen.

/I went to see the documentary River Blue in Empire Bio which was an event hosted by Sustain Daily. Afterwards there was a little debate about sustainable clothing production and an after party at Res Res.

Jeg har vidst allerede nævnt et par gange, at jeg er vilde med de her sunde snickers. Forleden prøvede jeg at lave dem til små snickers kugler, dog uden chokolade ovenpå, og de var stadig mega gode!

/I think I’ve already mentioned how much I love these healthy snickers. The other day I tried to make some small snickers ball, but without chocolate on top, and they were still so good!

Jeg snuppede en Asthanga yoga klasse i DoYoga’s fine studie på Vesterbrogade – og det var skønt!

/I went for an Asthanga yoga class in DoYoga’s lovely studio at Vesterbrogade – and it was wonderful!

Jeg havde også besøg af sødeste Ida til te og croissant, snak og en god lang gå tur <3

/ I also got a visit from sweet Ida for a cup of tea and a croissant, some talking and a long good walk <3 

Jeg ved godt jeg er late-to-the-game, men jeg har først lige opdaget figner – og jeg er vild med dem!

/I know that I’m late-to-the-game, but I’ve just discovered figs – and I love them!

Søndag blev brugt på en masse forberedelse til den kommende uge (vasket tøj, meal prep, handlet ind og læst lidt lektier), men blev også brugt på ren afslapning, lidt hjemme yoga og masser af te <3

/ Sunday was spend with a lot of preparation for this week (washed clothes, meal prepping, bought groceries and read some homeworks), but it was also spend relaxing, some yoga at home and lots of tea <3

ESSENTIALS FOR A SELFCARE DAY

Noget af det bedste jeg ved, er at have rene selvforkælelsesdage. Hvor man ikke skal andet end at tage sig af sig selv, hygge, slappe af og lave lige hvad man aller bedst kan lide. Det behøves ikke at være en hel dag, men bare at indføre disse små hygge ritualer engang imellem gør en kæmpe forskel i ens hverdag og på ens generelle humør.

Tørbørstning
Tørbørstning* er en skøn måde at føle at man virkelig forkæler sig selv og sin krop. Du skal simpelthen bare børste din krop, og så sætter det gang i dit lymfesystem og får blodet til at cirkulere rundt i kroppen, hvilket stimulerer cellerne. Jeg elsker at tørbørste kroppen og efterfølgende tage et bad, eller smøre mig ind i olie – så føler jeg virkelig at jeg gør noget godt for mig selv og min krop.

Olie
Jeg elsker virkelig olier. Jeg elsker at smøre dem på kroppen, i hovedet, i håret osv. Jeg synes at olier kan noget helt fantastisk, og jeg føler at de virkelig går ind og nærer min krop. Der findes et hav af forskellige olier som hver især kan noget fantastisk. Typisk bruger jeg kokosolie til kroppen når jeg skal give mig selv en oliemassage, eller bare efter jeg har været i bad, og til ansigtet bruger jeg enten mandel- eller jojoba olie (gerne blandet op med noget hybenkerneolie og lidt e-vitaminolie).

God te
En god kop te skal man ikke undervurdere. Jeg drikker simpelthen så meget te. Min kæreste synes det er helt morsomt så meget te jeg drikker. Han spørger mig altid, “hvor mange kopper te har du så fået i dag?”. Jeg elsker varme, og teen hjælper med at holde mig varm, og så er der bare noget virkelig hyggeligt over at sidde med en varm kop te.

Lækker snack, evt. chokolade
Hvis man skal have sig en rigtig hyggestund, så skal man også have noget hygge snacks. Og det behøves altså ikke at være det usunde. Der findes tonsvis af lidt sundere snacks, fx mørk chokolade, eller sunde snickersbarer, eller bare noget frugt er også virkelig skønt.

Noget godt at læse i
Det kan være et blad, eller en bog. Jeg elsker at fordybe mig i en god bog, med en god kop te og lidt at snacke på. Det er nok noget af det bedste jeg ved, og det får mig til at slappe helt af. I kan læse lidt boganbefalinger fra mig og Cathrine lige her.

Hyggetøj
Hvis man skal hygge sig, så skal man også have det rart og bekvemt. Det bedste er at sidde i en stor striktrøje, natbukser og tykke sokker under et godt tæppe – er det ikke rigtigt?

Lys
Lys er bare hyggelige. Jeg elsker at tænde lys, og foretrækker soya lys (læs hvorfor her), og ellers så er min himalaya salt lampe også med til at skabe den hyggeligste atmosfære.

Hvad gør i når i skal hygge jer?

English:

One of the best things that I know of is to have days where I focus on selfcare. Where you don’t have to do anything else except taking care of yourself, having a cozy time, relaxing and do what you love the most. But it doesn’t have to be an entire day, you can just incorporate some of the small cozy rituals into your every day life and it will make a huge difference on your day and your general mood.

Drybrushing
Drybruhsing* is a wonderful way to feel like you are really treating yourself and your body. All you have to do is dry brush your body, and this will get your blood circulation going which stimulates your cells. I love to dry brush my body and afterwards either take a bath, or give myself an oil massage – then I really feel like I am doing something good for myself and my body.

Oils
I really love oils. I love to put it on my body, in my face, in my hair etc. I think that oils are fantastic, and I really feel like they go in and nourish my body. There are tons of different oils which all can something differently. I typically use coconut oil for my body when I’m giving myself an oil massage, or just after the shower, and for the face I use either almond- or jojoba oil (preferably mixed with some rosehip seed oil and some e-vitamin oil).

A good cup of tea
Never underestimate a good cup of tea. I drink so much tea that my boyfriend thinks it is hilarious, he always asks me “how many cups of tea have you had today?”. I love the warmth, and the tea really help to keep me warm, and then there is just something cozy about drinking a warm cup of tea.

Delicious snacks, fx chocolate
If you are going to have a real good time, you also need some kind of snacks. It doesn’t have to be unhealthy snacks. There are tons of delicious healthier snacks, fx dark chocolate, healthy snrickersbites, or some fruit is also wonderful. 

Something good to read
It can be a magazine, or book. I love to dive into a good book, with a lovely cup of tea and something to snack on. It is probably one of the best things that I know of, and it really makes me relax. You can read some book recommendations from me and Cathrine right here.

Cozy clothes
If you are really going to have a cozy time, you also need to feel cozy and comfortable. The best is to sit in a big knitted sweater, pyjamas pants and some thick socks beneath a good blanket – am I right?

Candles
Candles are just cozy. I love to burn candles, and I prefer soy candles (you can read why, right here), and else my himalayan salt lamp also helps to create a cozy atmosphere.

MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF

At have tid til sig selv, og tid til at lave lige hvad man gerne vil, er essentielt hvis man gerne vil have det godt. Hvis man ræser rundt fra det ene til det andet, kan det være svært at finde ud af hvad man egentlig gerne vil, og man kan blive helt stresset og udmattet.

Det kan jeg i hvert fald. Derfor prøver jeg så vidt muligt ikke at lave alt for mange aftaler hver evig eneste dag, men at prøve at have lidt fri tid i kalenderen, så der også er plads til ro, afslapning, fordybelse og selvforkælelse.

Mine bedste måder at slappe af på, og have mig-tid, er ved at:

– drikke en dejlig kop varm te
– fordybe mig i en spændende eller interessant bog
– gå ture udenfor i naturen
– lave yoga
– tænde lys
– lave noget lækkert og god mad (eller snacks, de her sunde snickersbidder er min all-time favourite snack for tiden!)
– drikke en god kop te eller kaffe latte med en god veninde, eller min mor, og bare snakke
– se spændende ting på youtube, eller en god dokumentar
– tegne eller male
– skrive mine drømme ned
– tage mig af min krop, ved at tørbørste den, give den et dejligt varmt bad, eller en god gang oliemassage

Hvad bruger du din mig-tid på? Og husker du at holde mig-tid? Hvis du har det med at glemme det, så vil jeg anbefale dig, at du bruger nogle timer i denne weekend på at gøre lige hvad du har lyst til, og husk at nyde det!

English:

Having time for yourself, and time to do what you want is essential if we want to feel good. If you run around from one thing to the next, it can be difficult to figure out what you actually want, and you can get stressed out and exhausted.

Well, at least I can. Therefore I try my best not to schedule too many things every single day, but instead try to have some free time in my calendar, so there is also room for quiet, relaxing and some selfcare time.  

My best ways to relax, and have some me-time, is by:

– drinking a cup of nice warm tea
– dive into an interesting or fascinating book
– going for walks outside in nature
– doing yoga
– lid a candle 
– making some delicious and good food (or snacks, these healthy snicker bites are my all time favourite at the moment!)
– driking a cup of tea or caffe latte with a good friend, or my mom, and just talk
– watching interesting videos on youtube, or a good documentary
– painting or drawing
– writing down my dreams 
– taking care of my body, by dry brushing it, giving it a nice warm bath, or a lovely oil massage 

How do you spend your me-time? And do you remember to have some me-time? If you tend to forget about it, then I’ll recommend that you spend some hours this weekend to do exactly what you want to do, and remember to enjoy it!

TEA TIME

Jeg tænkte at jeg kunne lave en lille post kaldet ‘tea time’ engang imellem, og dele hver gang jeg finder nye gode teer. Jeg kan næppe være den eneste derude, som bare elsker te! I må endelig også bare dele hvis I kender til nogle gode slags te, for jeg elsker at prøve nye slags.

Denne te faldt jeg over i Føtex forleden dag, den hedder “Tummy Love” og er fra Fredsted. Det er en blanding af ingefær, gurkemeje og kardemomme. Jeg faldt over lige netop denne her, fordi jeg gerne ville have en ‘sund’ te, men i de fleste sunde teer, er der lakridsrod i – og det er jeg ikke fan af, så da jeg kiggede på ingredienslisten på denne te og så at den ikke indeholdte det, røg den straks ned i kurven. Det er en sund smag, men samtidig en rigtig lækker en, der bare dufter skønt!

I thought I wanted to make a little post called ‘tea time’ once in a while, and share every time I find some new good tea. I can hardly be the only one out there who just love tea! And please share if you have some good tea which you just love, I love to try new flavors.

This tea I found in Føtex the other day and it’s called “Tummy Love” and is by Fredsted. It’s a mix of ginger, turmeric and cardamom. I fell over this one because I’ve been looking out for a new good ‘healthy’ tea, but in most of the healthy tea’s, there are licorice root in it – which I’m not really a fan of, so when I checked out the ingredienslist for this one, and saw that it did not contain that, I just had to get it. It has a healthy flavour, but also a very delicious one, and it just smells wonderful!

All in all a great week. This week is going to be great as well, and a bit busy, because it’s the last week with classes, and then it’s time for exams! But I’m also going to bake Christmas cookies together with my family, and Christmas begins this week, so I’m really excited. Hope you’ve all had a great week, and that the week to come will be just as good.

My new Favourite Tea

Dem som kender mig ved godt at jeg er en te-person uden lige. Jeg drikker ikke kaffe, overhovedet ikke. Jeg drikker max en chai latte eller en caffe latte engang imellem, men det er ret sjælendt. Men te, det elsker, elsker, elsker jeg! Og jeg drikker op til flere kopper grøn te om dagen, især her om vinteren. Te er bare noget af det hyggeliste at sidde og varme sig med, og sidde og nippe til. Til dagligt drikker jeg en helt standard grøn te, både fordi jeg godt kan lide smagen og fordi at det skulle være rigtig godt for en. Men når jeg skal hygge mig eller forkæle mig selv rigtig godt, så kan jeg godt lide at drikke søde teer med honning i, mhmmm!

Så forleden var jeg hjemme hos min kærestes forældre og spise og så fik vi en kop te efterfølgende – og jeg fik den te på ovenstående billede ‘grøn te med karamel’ fra Tante T, og hold nu lige fast! Den duftede ikke mindst fantastisk skønt af karamel, men den smagte også super godt. Så den smuttede jeg altså lige forbi Tante T i Torvehallerne og købte i går, for den måtte jeg bare eje derhjemme også. Så hvis I også er te mennesker, så skal I næsten unde jer selv at smage denne (hvis I vel og mærket er til duften af karamel), for den er virkelig skøn.

Those who know me, know that I’m a big tea-person. I don’t drink coffee, not at all. Sometimes I drink a chai latte or a caffe latte, but that is not that often. But I love, love, love tea! And I drink up to several cups a day of green tea, especially during the Winter. Tea is just so cozy to sit and warm yourself up with. Daily I drink a standard green tea, both because I like the taste and because it should be good for you. But when I’m having a cozy time or am spoiling myself, I like to drink some sweet tea with honey, mhmm! 

So the other day my boyfriend and I ate at his parents house and afterwards we got a cup of tea – and I got the tea on the above picture ‘green tea with caramel’ from Tante T, and wauw! Not only did it smell amazing of caramel, but it also tasted really good. So yesterday I stopped by Tante T in Torvehallerne (in Copenhagen, right next to Nørreport Station), because I just had to get that tea. So if you are tea persons, just like me, I recommend you to try this one (but you should like the smell of caramel), because it’s wonderful.

sund og lækker chai te

Jeg elsker at tulle rundt i helseshops. Så forleden da jeg var forbi en helseshop, snuppede jeg disse to te pakker med hjem. De er fra mærket Clipper som jeg har læst lidt omkring inden da. Det er økologisk og fairtrade. Og ja, så er det grøn te + chai te, to ting jeg elsker. Så, jeg blev nødt til at prøve dem. De smager skønt, og så synes jeg at indpakningerne er så fine.
