CREATE A SPACE YOU LOVE

This is YOUR life, so why not create it and make it just as you like it! Create a space you love – and not just a physical space, but just as much a mental space you love.

Physically

Life is simply too short to surround yourself with things that doesn’t make you happy. Seriously, do you sit at home and just feel like “eh..” over your room, apartment or house? There is really no need to. Start clearing up and throw out all of the things that doesn’t make you happy (for this little project I can recommend Marie Kondo’s book ‘The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up“). Hereafter, everytime you bring something new into your life really think about if this is something that makes you happy and excited. Create a home and a create a feeling that inspires you and which makes you feel happy and at home.

I still have a few minor things I would like to change in our apartment, but overall I am so happy with the light and bright apartment my boyfriend and I have, all the plants I have, the himalayan salt lamps, the crystals, all my books and just everything! I really love our home. I especially love my little desk corner (yes exactly, the one on the picture above), which is where I sit most of the day and read homeworks, do work or write on blogposts – and with a cup of tea by my side, that is simply just the best! You know, the small pleasures of life, right?

Mentally

But now we talk about creating a space that you love, then I of course do not just mean the physical space, but just as much the mental space. You are the only person you need to spend your entire life together with. Just think about it for a second, you will always be together with YOU. Therefore, the best thing you can do in life is to learn to love yourself and love your own company. Become your own best friend.

But, how do you do that?

I know, it’s not just as easy-peasy as it sounds. We can be so cruel to ourselves “you look ugly”, “why did you say that?”, “and who exactly do you think you are?” – do you recognise the negative self-talk? I’ve done a tons of this, and I still work on this, but I have gotten so much better, and I love myself now and whenever I start thinking such thoughts I quickly turn them around and apologise to myself.

But Camilla you still didn’t answer the question, how do you actually learn to love yourself?

First of all, you need to start paying attention to the things you say to yourself. Start noticing every time you think negatively about yourself and then stop yourself right there. Become aware of it. Instead tell yourself something you love about yourself, it might be your smile, your eyes, your kindness toward others – anything, just focus on something positive instead. At first it can seem very forced and fake, but eventually you will start believing yourself.

A little exercise: Look yourself in the mirror and say “I love you”.

Do this every time you are at the bathroom, fx brushing teeth, cleansing your face or if you just pass a mirror – take a little moment, look at yourself and say these words – and try your very best to believe them, trust me, eventually you will learn to love and accept yourself just as you are.

I have lots of other ideas for things you can do to improve your wellbeing, but let’s say this is it for now. Try working on stopping your thoughts every time you find yourself thinking negatively, and do the little mirror exercise, and see how your life slowly starts to become happier, better and you will feel more confident!

By creating a mental space you love, also think about whether you spend your time on the things you love. Do you read books that you find interesting? Do you spend time in nature? Do you spend time with people who you like? Consider these things, and if the answer is not yes, then start changing things – or, if you do not know what you like, start to do some researching, explore – find out what it is that really makes you happy and excited and spend your time on these things!

MY SELF CARE TIPS AND WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT

What is self care?

Basically, in all its simplicity it means to take care of yourself. “You can’t pour from an empty cup” as the saying goes. You cannot give fully to others before you make sure that you are well and feeling good yourself. Therefore it is so important to remember yourself and listen to your own body’s needs. Do you feel completely stressed out and filled up? Have you spend time with too many people the entire day? Have you fuelled your body with good vitamins and nutrients? Have you gotten enough sleep?

If you start to really listen, your body will easily tell you what you need. And, you should learn to listen to it and then accommodate to those needs. If you’re feeling completely overwhelmed by spending too much time with others, then take some time for yourself to just relax and just be alone. Take a bath, just lay on the couch, read a good book. Whatever you need.

It is so important to take care of yourself. And even though I love to-do-lists and being productive, I also know that if I don’t take time for some self-care, then I’ll eventually end up burning out which won’t do any good at all.

Here is a quote that I love:

The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself“.

So, as the quote goes, the only person you are sure to be with for the rest of your life is yourself, so be sure to take care of yourself and be happy and content with your own company and who you are.
Next I will share some of my favourite self care tips with you and hopefully you will find some inspiration to tune in with yourself and listen to what you need and then remember to take some time just for you.

My favourite self care tips

  • take a warm bath
  • make your skincare ritual a nice part of your evening routine, really take your time and enjoy it
  • make a nice cup of hot tea, a matcha latte, chai or hot chocolate
  • go for a walk and breath in the fresh air
  • move your body
  • find a good movie or serie and just completely relax on the couch with a blanket and a cup of something good
  • take time to make some delicious food
  • journal, write out your thoughts, get them out of your head

  • lighting candles and creating a cozy atmosphere
  • doing a little at-home-faical-massage with oil and a gua sha
  • be kind to yourself, tell yourself that you love yourself <3

TIPS FOR STOMACH ISSUES

I’ve had problems with my stomach throughout my entire childhood and teen years. When I was around 12-13 years old I got a blood test to figure out if I was allergic to anything, but nothing showed up, so I’ve never really gotten a clear answer to what was causing the problems. However, as I got older I started to notice when I got problems with my stomach. One thing that was sure was every time I ate creamed potatoes or ice-cream I could count on getting problems with my stomach. But it wasn’t until my twenties that I started researching about how dairy could have this effect on people. After having cut dairy out of my diet completely I almost never experience severe problems with my stomach anymore.

However, after years of having lived with a sensitive stomach, I’ve also looked into supplements and other things which can help my stomach function as good as possible, which is what I wanted to share with you today.

There can be many reasons for why you’re having trouble, maybe you eat too much processed food, maybe you’re gluten intolerant, or maybe, like me, you’re dairy intolerant. I hope you can find some useful information in this blogpost, and that it can hopefully help you if you are dealing with the same problems as I have.

Tips for a problematic stomach

Eat more fibers

Fibers are essential for a healthy functioning stomach (and body), so strive for eating more green vegetables.  Fibers add more good bacteria into your gut, and this is so essential for having a healthy body. You can fx choose to add a green smoothie into your daily diet every single day. I have a delicious recipe here, and here you can also choose to add psyllium husks or silicon supplement into it as well.

Probiotics

Get a supplement, or eat some probiotic food, like sauerkraut*, to get those good bacterias into your stomach, which helps the gut function better.

Psyllium husks

Psyllium husks (Danish: loppefrøskaller/HUSK*) have a high amount of fibers and they are good for the gut, and it is a very well-known supplement for people with stomach issues. So try adding this into your diet, either by putting it into your oatmeal, your smoothies or simply just mix it with water and drink it.

green smoothie and vitamins

Silicon

Silicon (Danish: silicium/spisekisel*) is a supplement that helps keep the body healthy. It improves skin, hair, nails and your digestion. Silicon helps bind toxins in your body and transport them out of your system, which is what improves your digestion. You can get this supplement either in capsules or in powder form. I have the powder form and put a tiny spoon of it into my green smoothies, which I try to make every single day. In that way I both get good fibers and silicon.

Cut out dairy products

Try cutting out all dairy products for a while and see how you feel. Nowadays there actually is really no good reason for eating dairy products, you can find substitutes for these which won’t affect you. Now I only use ricemilk when I’m cooking, and when I’m out on a café I always get oat milk in my hot drinks.

Cut out gluten

If you have a feeling that gluten might be causing you problems, then try, just as with the dairy, to cut it out for a while and pay close attention to how you feel.

Relax and stress down

Being easily stressed, or very nervous and anxious can also cause problems. I’m for sure one of those people that have been easily nervous and which affected my entire body. Try to calm yourself down, take some deep breaths, meditate, learn that the worst thing that can happen isn’t really that bad.

Go to the toilet when you need to

This is so important, yet something so many people have problems with, especially girls I think. I guess most of you know the feeling of being out somewhere which is not in the comfort of your home and you need to go to the toilet (we’re talking nr. 2 here) and you seriously don’t want to out of fear that others might hear you, or it will smell or anything. Am I right? I’ve talked to so many girlfriends about how this is something we feel so insecure about, especially if you are fx dating a new guy or at school or work.
But we need to turn this around, and realise that every single person on this planet poops. It is a natural thing, and holding it in will only trouble your body and stomach even more.
Just think about it, poop is filled with all the excess stuff that there isn’t room for in your body – it is something that needs to get out of you, and holding it in will do no good for you or your body.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION – WOMANCODE

Today I want to share the book Womancode with you. It’s already been a while since I read it, but it has been on my list to write a little recommendation about it for you, because I loved that book!

What’s it about?

The book Womancode* written by Alisa Vitti is a book all about the woman cycle and how to best support your own health and hormones during the different phases of your cycle. I have learned so incredibly much about the woman cycle, and my own cycle, through this book which I had no knowledge about prior to reading it.

My knowledge about the woman cycle before reading this book was mainly that you had your menstruation once a month, and that I was aware of ovulation also happened. But besides that, I had no knowledge at all, neither did I really know how we could live our lives more in alignment with our cycles and thereby improve our health, hormones and overall wellbeing.

I have now learned that we have 4 different phases which we go through throughout our cycle:

  • Follicular phase
  • Ovulatory phase
  • Luteal phase
  • Menstrual phase

I have also learned how to better stabilise my hormones during the different phases in the form of what to focus on (relaxing, organising, exercising etc.) and what kind of food to eat. Fx to eat more healthy fat during the menstrual phase, such as avocados, chia seeds and flax seeds etc.

“The path is this: align with your hormones, allow your body to restore its own balance, and watch your symptoms clear up” – Womancode

The book actually contain meal plans which you can follow for the different phases, however I’m not much for following plans strictly, so I’ll probably never do that, but I have started to pay more attention to what to eat more of during the different phases, and learned the importance of keeping a stable blood sugar level by eating regularly.

I read this book at the same time as I was quitting my birth control pills (and I also did some other research as well), but I personally haven’t experienced any problems with getting my menstruation back (so far) after having quit the birth control – which I’m truly grateful for!

I can for sure recommend this book, especially if you are quitting the birth control pill and want to stabilise your hormones and get your cycle back on track, but also just if you want to learn more about the female body and how it functions.

Tip!

I can definitely also recommend using the app MyFLO which is created by the author behind this book. Through this app you can see which phase you are in and it gives you tips on what to focus on during the different phases every time you enter the app, which I really love!

MY FAVOURITE SELFCARE RITUALS

Sove? Tegne? Gør lige hvad du vil, og bare tag dig tid.

Hvad er dine yndlings selvkærligheds ritualer? Del dem endelig i kommentarfeltet!

English:
One of the best thing that I know of is to take good care of myself, both physically and mentally. I love it, and I know how important it is. Because in the periods where I forget about myself because of too many things, I get both physically ill and I can only feel that I just cannot be there as much as I want to for my relations, in school or at my job. There are so many people in our society today who go down with stress, and it is therefore so important to listen to yourself, and remember to prioritize time for yourself and time for some quiet and relaxing time.

Here are some of my favourite selfcare rituals which I use, some every day and some just once in a while, to take better care of myself.

Green tea
I personally drink green tea every single day, and preferably several cups a day. I just love a good cup of warm tea, and I love all the health benefits there is to drinking green tea.

Movement
To move my body makes such a different on my overall wellbeing, and I can clearly feel it in my body when I’ve had those days just sitting in front of the computer all day long (sigh, being a student calls for many hours in front of the computer or bending over the books). It does not have to be a giant exercise, just moving a little bit on the yoga mat or going for a walk makes it all better.

Fresh air
This is important and really an ‘instant mood changer’. Just getting out into the fresh air, get in contact with nature, get some wind in the face or some sunshine on your skin makes such a difference.

Drybrushing
I’ve fallen completely in love with dry brushing. Both my body and my face. You really feel like you’re doing something amazing for your skin, which you are since it starts your circulationssystem.

Oil massage
Just like I love to dry brush my body, I also love to give my body a good oil massage. Just rubbing myself in oil from top to toe and massage the body.

Facial massage
I love to cleanse my face, put lots of oil on it and then just massage the oil really good into the skin. In the meanwhile I make some ugly faces and get my face muscles going. It is lovely and can only be recommended.

Healthy and nourishing food
I feel my absolute best when I fill my body with healthy and nourishing food. I can feel it on my energy level, how I feel and, not least, I can see it on my skin.

Chocolate
But just as much as I love filling myself with healthy and nourishing food, I also love to eat some pieces of chocolate once in a while (gladly combined with a cup of tea), that is just the definition of a good and cozy time for me, and you also need to do the things which makes your soul happy.

Meditation
Meditation has so many benefits to it, and it just makes you so calm, which is just amazing.

Gratitude list
This is one of the best things you can do for yourself mentally. Sit down at least once a day and think about, or write down, what you are grateful for. It can be anything, the tiniest thing or something huge. Just appreciate life and everything you have.

Think nicely about yourself
Just like learning to show gratitude for what you have is amazing, it is just as amazing to learn to love yourself just as you are. We are all different and our own person, and that is amazing. Learn to love yourself, and think nice thoughts about yourself instead of criticizing yourself all the time. Just try looking at yourself into the mirror and tell yourself that you love you. Believe me, at first you will find yourself ridiculous, but then you actually learn to truly love yourself after a while.

Footbath
A nice warm footbath is one of the best things, and then finishing off with massaging your feet with some oil. We often tend to forget our feet, even though they are the ones carrying us around every single day. They also need some care and nurturing.

Hairmask
A good hairmask is always wonderful. I love massaging coconut oil into my hair, put it up in a bun and sleep with it and wash it out the day after.

Scalpmassage
While you are giving yourself a hairmask, you might as well also give yourself a good head and scalp massage and stimulate the hair roots, which is really good for your hair growth.

Just take your time
You can have plenty of rituals, but one of the best things is to just relax and take time for whatever you want to do. Do you want to read? Watch a movie? Sleep? Just do whatever you want to, and take your time.

What are your favourite selfcare rituals? Please share them in the comment section!

Remember to take care of yourself

Now the Sunday is almost over, and I just wanted to hear if you have remembered to take care of yourself? Taken care of your body, eaten something delicious, relaxed, read a good book? Something which makes you feel better about yourself. I believe that it is important that we take time for ourselves, and used it on whatever we want to do once in a while. Even if it is going for a long walk, getting a lot of things done, relaxing with a good book or some tv. No matter what, I think that it is important to take time for what you want to do, at least a few times a week.

I have made a little plan myself, that when I get home from vacation, then once a week I want to do all the things that makes me feel good. So one day a week I will: clean the apartment, give myself a hairmask, a facial mask or scrub, spend some time on giving myself a facial massage and a footbath. And then drink some good tea, and just spending some time with a good book, tv serie or something else.

I hope that you have all had a lovely Sunday! I have spend the most of my Sunday on preparing for my boyfriend and I leaving for New York (!!) tomorrow.
