Happiness Personal

Monday and time to look back at some everyday happiness from the past week! It’s the little things that make up our lives, so let’s try to appreciate them and be grateful for all the small things in life <3

How was your past week?

I finally got my newly painted shelf up! So far I only have 2 plants on it, but I’m waiting for another one from my friend, and then I hope they grow long and big and hang all the way down from the shelf <3

I baked Carolina’s spelt buns, and I have also tried several different new things and changes in my diet and overall lifestyle after having a health consultation with Carolina <3

I received this beautiful “turtle bag” which I bought through Ilovegreen. I really like the concept of the turtle bag it’s made from organic natural fibres and it’s biodegradable. Turtle bags was made to protect the oceans, but as it says in the name also turtles. Many turtles mistake plastic bags in the ocean for jellyfish and eat them, and ends up getting plastic inside them and several die. That’s just so sad. Bring your own bag and ditch the plastic bags.

I’ve been fuelling myself with lots of this green smoothie! I try to drink one every single day to get lots of green and fibers in my body <3

Sunday I spent my morning in spa with my mom. I love this. A combination of taking good care of your body, relaxing and talking and spending time with my mom <3 After that we were completely relaxed and ate some lunch and then home where I pretty much fell asleep on the couch – perfect Sunday, if you ask me.

Today I want to talk about cycle syncing, what it is and how it can improve your life.

Cycle syncing means syncing your life to your menstrual cycle. We have 4 cycles that we go through: follicular, ovulatory, luteal and menstrual. All my information come from the book Womancode* or the app MyFLO. Cycle syncing is all about how you can optimise your life and your health by syncing your life more with your cycle. Fx we all know the feeling of having menstruation and not feeling like doing anything at all – in this philosophy it’s all about following your flow. If you are having your menstruation you just don’t feel like doing much else except relaxing, and that is what you should strive for.

I really like this idea, because I’ve gone through many years where I’ve been trying to go to the gym when I was on my period even though I didn’t feel like it AT ALL. Now I really tune more in and go with what my body wants to. I know it’s not always possible to do exactly what you want, fx cancelling going to work just because you have your menstruation, but it’s more about learning to be more connected with your body and do some small things which is in alignment with how you are feeling. This philosophy is really all about how you can improve your life, how you are feeling and your health by trying to live more in sync with your cycle. Below you can find out how you can do this more practically.

And just for your information, in the book (Womancode) there is a much more scientific explanation into why you are feeling certain ways during the different times of the month, fx because of estrogen dropping, hormones raising etc. I didn’t want to write about that here, but rather take away the more practical and simple stuff. But if you’re interested, then you can read all about it in the book.

The 4 phases

• Follicular phase (7-10 days)

This is when you have most energy and your conscious awareness increases. This is the perfect time for mental creativity, learning, clarity, concentration, researching, structural thinking and independence. During this time focus on setting goals, plan and set intentions.

Food focus: fresh, vibrant, light foods that make you feel more energised during this phase, when all hormone levels are at their lowest. Think: pressed salads (kimchi, sauerkraut), plenty of vegetables, sprouted beans and seeds, energy-sustaining grains.

Exercise focus: try something new. You also have the energy to go for more challenging workouts too at this time.

• Ovulatory phase (3-4 days)

This is the time where you are more expressive, outgoing and this is the best time for communication, empathy, productivity, teamwork. Focus on social activities and communication. This is also the time of the month were you are fertile, and you are therefore also more flirty and outgoing because of natural instinct of the body being fertile and thereby want to attract the opposite sex.

Food focus: you have plenty of natural energy and your mood is stable because of all the estrogen floating around, so go easy on carbohydrates and stick to lighter grains such as corn and quinoa. Still eat plenty of vegetables and fruit.

Exercise focus: high-impact workout and group settings. Your energy levels are at their maximum at this time.

• Luteal phase (10-14 days)

Pre-menstrual phase. Here you are more creative and active. This is the best time for inspired creativity, out of the box thinking and problem solving.

Food focus: focus on food rich in B vitamins, calcium, magnesium and fiber. Healthy, natural sugar can help with the dip in estrogen that occurs in the second half of the luteal phase which can make you feel irritable. Also make sure to have a good amount of complex carbohydrates to stabilise serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain and help prevent mood swings.

Exercise focus: during the first half of this phase your energy might still be high so just go for the same activities as during your ovulation phase. Then scale down on the intensity during the final days and strive for exercise such as walking, pilates, yoga, mor slow forms.

• Menstrual phase (3-7 days)

This is when you have your menstruation. You are more likely to be reflective, passive and withdrawn. Subconscious intuition, best time for inner processing, creative reviewing, reaching the core of things, letting go, new ideas, intuitive creativity and renewall. Focus on time alone, reflecting, selfcare, journalling.

Food focus: during this time your body is eliminating the lining of your uterus – so focus on foods that add nutrients; foods with a low-glycemic index and water-rich fruits and vegetables. Sea-based vegetables will help your body remineralise iron and zinc, which you lose during menstruation.

Exercise focus: rest and recovery. If you want to exercise strive for yoga or walking, take it slow and let your body rest.

I have to say that I certainly do not live completely according to the above description, but it really does make perfect sense for me. To live in sync with your hormones and not push yourself to fx Working out when you are on your period and really just feel like laying down and watching a movie. It’s all about learning to listen more to your body and take care of it and it that way optimise your health and life.

If you are in doubt about which phase you are in, then I can for sure recommend the app MyFLO which is created by the author behind the book Womancode. Here you plug in when you have your menstruation, how you feel on different days and it will tell you in which phase you are currently in and how you can optimise your health during the specific phases.

What do you think about it? Have you heard about cycle syncing before? Are you trying to live your life more in alignment with how your body is feeling?

DIY Holistic beauty & skincare

I just tried making my own face cream the other day, and it turned out really well. I asked you guys on Instagram if you wanted the recipe, and that was a solid yes! So, here you go!

The recipe is made with only 4 natural and pure ingredients and water. Simply, easy and you are then assured that you only put good ingredients on your face. Because remember, whatever you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body. Therefore I want to use as pure ingredients as possible.

The face cream is very moisturising, and perfect for dry winter skin. This cream is also perfect if you have very sensitive skin, because all the ingredients are very gentle and soothing.

If you are not used to putting oils on your face, then you might find the cream a bit too greasy to use as a day cream, but it sure is perfect for a very moisturising night cream.

homemade moisturizing face cream

face cream

  • 50 g almond oil
  • 10 g sheabutter
  •  6 g bee’s wax
  • 50 g water
  • a few drops of vitamin E oil (optional)

*Shea butter is known for repairing skin and boosting collagen

How to do it

It is so simple, you just put all the ingredients into a double boiler and melt it all together. Once it is all melted, you put it into the freezer for 15-20 minutes. Then you take it out and use a mixer to blend it all together until it has a nice, smooth consistency. Then use a spoon to scoop it into a glass or tin container, and voila you’ve got yourself your very own face cream!

Sove? Tegne? Gør lige hvad du vil, og bare tag dig tid.

Hvad er dine yndlings selvkærligheds ritualer? Del dem endelig i kommentarfeltet!

One of the best thing that I know of is to take good care of myself, both physically and mentally. I love it, and I know how important it is. Because in the periods where I forget about myself because of too many things, I get both physically ill and I can only feel that I just cannot be there as much as I want to for my relations, in school or at my job. There are so many people in our society today who go down with stress, and it is therefore so important to listen to yourself, and remember to prioritize time for yourself and time for some quiet and relaxing time.

Here are some of my favourite selfcare rituals which I use, some every day and some just once in a while, to take better care of myself.

Green tea
I personally drink green tea every single day, and preferably several cups a day. I just love a good cup of warm tea, and I love all the health benefits there is to drinking green tea.

To move my body makes such a different on my overall wellbeing, and I can clearly feel it in my body when I’ve had those days just sitting in front of the computer all day long (sigh, being a student calls for many hours in front of the computer or bending over the books). It does not have to be a giant exercise, just moving a little bit on the yoga mat or going for a walk makes it all better.

Fresh air
This is important and really an ‘instant mood changer’. Just getting out into the fresh air, get in contact with nature, get some wind in the face or some sunshine on your skin makes such a difference.

I’ve fallen completely in love with dry brushing. Both my body and my face. You really feel like you’re doing something amazing for your skin, which you are since it starts your circulationssystem.

Oil massage
Just like I love to dry brush my body, I also love to give my body a good oil massage. Just rubbing myself in oil from top to toe and massage the body.

Facial massage
I love to cleanse my face, put lots of oil on it and then just massage the oil really good into the skin. In the meanwhile I make some ugly faces and get my face muscles going. It is lovely and can only be recommended.

Healthy and nourishing food
I feel my absolute best when I fill my body with healthy and nourishing food. I can feel it on my energy level, how I feel and, not least, I can see it on my skin.

But just as much as I love filling myself with healthy and nourishing food, I also love to eat some pieces of chocolate once in a while (gladly combined with a cup of tea), that is just the definition of a good and cozy time for me, and you also need to do the things which makes your soul happy.

Meditation has so many benefits to it, and it just makes you so calm, which is just amazing.

Gratitude list
This is one of the best things you can do for yourself mentally. Sit down at least once a day and think about, or write down, what you are grateful for. It can be anything, the tiniest thing or something huge. Just appreciate life and everything you have.

Think nicely about yourself
Just like learning to show gratitude for what you have is amazing, it is just as amazing to learn to love yourself just as you are. We are all different and our own person, and that is amazing. Learn to love yourself, and think nice thoughts about yourself instead of criticizing yourself all the time. Just try looking at yourself into the mirror and tell yourself that you love you. Believe me, at first you will find yourself ridiculous, but then you actually learn to truly love yourself after a while.

A nice warm footbath is one of the best things, and then finishing off with massaging your feet with some oil. We often tend to forget our feet, even though they are the ones carrying us around every single day. They also need some care and nurturing.

A good hairmask is always wonderful. I love massaging coconut oil into my hair, put it up in a bun and sleep with it and wash it out the day after.

While you are giving yourself a hairmask, you might as well also give yourself a good head and scalp massage and stimulate the hair roots, which is really good for your hair growth.

Just take your time
You can have plenty of rituals, but one of the best things is to just relax and take time for whatever you want to do. Do you want to read? Watch a movie? Sleep? Just do whatever you want to, and take your time.

What are your favourite selfcare rituals? Please share them in the comment section!

Health Holistic & Spiritual living

– gå ture udenfor i naturen
– lave yoga

Having time for yourself, and time to do what you want is essential if we want to feel good. If you run around from one thing to the next, it can be difficult to figure out what you actually want, and you can get stressed out and exhausted.

Well, at least I can. Therefore I try my best not to schedule too many things every single day, but instead try to have some free time in my calendar, so there is also room for quiet, relaxing and some selfcare time.

My best ways to relax, and have some me-time, is by:

– drinking a cup of nice warm tea
– dive into an interesting or fascinating book
– going for walks outside in nature
– doing yoga
– lid a candle
– making some delicious and good food (or snacks, these healthy snicker bites are my all time favourite at the moment!)
– driking a cup of tea or caffe latte with a good friend, or my mom, and just talk
– watching interesting videos on youtube, or a good documentary
– painting or drawing
– writing down my dreams
– taking care of my body, by dry brushing it, giving it a nice warm bath, or a lovely oil massage

How do you spend your me-time? And do you remember to have some me-time? If you tend to forget about it, then I’ll recommend that you spend some hours this weekend to do exactly what you want to do, and remember to enjoy it!

Holistic & Spiritual living

I do my best to live a holistic life.

But what does living a holistic life actually mean?

If you look up the word in the dictionary, it says: putting focus on the whole rather than just the individual parts.

The whole philosophy behind living a holistic life is about how our body and mind is connected. So when you are feeling stressed or worried in your mind this can actually affect you physically – and the other way around.

I completely believe that our thoughts affects our health, and the other way around. That is why I try to live healthy, think happy thoughts and spend time on things that I like.

But I’m also recognizing that if any problems arise, that it’s okay to feel them and feel the uncomfortable feeling. It just doesn’t work to swipe it away, since the problems is only going to build up inside your body and affect you.

Sweet Ida has actually made a holistic interview with me. Here you can read about what a holistic lifestyle means to me. You can also read about my best health, beauty, sustainable and selfcaring tips and much more. You can also find interviews with Mia Gardum and Carolina Ellie

Do you Take Care of All of your Body?

Hej allesammen!

Hi everyone! After a whole weekend filled with work (where I’ve gotten some pretty tired feet – because, that’s what you get after standing and walking around for 7 hours both Saturday and Sunday), I thought that I would begin my Monday with a warm and relaxing footbath and truly take care of my feet (because they are going to work again later tonight). I think it is highly important that we remember to spoil and take care of our bodies – all parts of it – regularly. Our body is the only one we have and we’ll ever get, therefore I think it’s highly important to take good care of it, so that it (hopefully) will function very well for our, hopefully, long lives.

– Once a week I take a footbath. First I file the hard skin under my feet, then I sit with my feet in the footbath for about half an hour, then I cut my nails, spread some thick cream all over my feet, and then I put on some plastic bags and take a pair of warm cozy socks on and sit with it on for about an hour (or the entire night).

– 2-3 times a week, just before I go into the shower, I use my dry brush to remove dead skin cells, and get my system going. Typically after having done this, I’ll also use a body scrub while I’m in the shower, and afterwards I’ll reply some almond oil on my entire body, so it gets nice and soft.

– Almost every day I’ll use a hand cream (especially during winter), and when I remember it, I’ll also use a cuticle oil, to strengthen my nails.

So just a little request from my, remember to take good care of your body! A lot of people only have focus on their face, because this is what you show to others – but just think about, that you have to be in your body for your entire life – and you deserve a healthy, well-kept and well-functioning body!

Make Your Own Natural Face Mask – BANANA HONEY

Today I have made a little video where I give you the recipe for a homemade face mask.
The face mask consist of 1/2 banana, 1 tsp of honey and 5 drops of lemon juice.

This face mask is really good if you have dry skin, because it hydrates the skin. Besides that it also has an anti-aging effect, and it helps prevent pimples and acne. I use the face mask for about 10 minutes, hereafter I rinse it off with water and put on some oil (almond or coconut) in my face.
