DIY Holistic beauty & skincare

If there’s something I really love to do, it’s to make my own skincare products. And I’ve already created a bunch of them and shared them in here with you guys, but if you are new to this blog, then here you have some recipes for homemade skincare products!

By making your own skincare products you will know exactly what is in them, and you can customise them to fit your skintype. You can play around and try different ingredients, fx try using jojoba oil instead of almond oil. Put less of some of the “butter” in it and more of the liquid ingredients if you like a more liquid consistency in your products. You can really play around and find what fits you and your skin type. Some homemade skincare products are also the perfect idea for a present to your friends, sister or mom!

Homemade face cream

A very moisturising face cream made with shea butter, almond oil (or jojoba oil), bee’s wax, water and vitamin E oil – perfect for dry skin!

Homemade lip balms

Moisturizing lip balms made out of only 4 natural ingredients!

Homemade body butter

Body butter made out of sheabutter, coconut oil and almond oil.

Have you tried any of these recipes?

DIY Holistic beauty & skincare

I just tried making my own face cream the other day, and it turned out really well. I asked you guys on Instagram if you wanted the recipe, and that was a solid yes! So, here you go!

The recipe is made with only 4 natural and pure ingredients and water. Simply, easy and you are then assured that you only put good ingredients on your face. Because remember, whatever you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body. Therefore I want to use as pure ingredients as possible.

The face cream is very moisturising, and perfect for dry winter skin. This cream is also perfect if you have very sensitive skin, because all the ingredients are very gentle and soothing.

If you are not used to putting oils on your face, then you might find the cream a bit too greasy to use as a day cream, but it sure is perfect for a very moisturising night cream.

  •  6 g bee’s wax
  • 50 g water
  • a few drops of vitamin E oil (optional)

How to do it

It is so simple, you just put all the ingredients into a double boiler and melt it all together. Once it is all melted, you put it into the freezer for 15-20 minutes. Then you take it out and use a mixer to blend it all together until it has a nice, smooth consistency. Then use a spoon to scoop it into a glass or tin container, and voila you’ve got yourself your very own face cream!

This year I’m trying to empty my old cleaning products and switch them for some more natural and environmental friendly ones. First I’ve made a very simply cleaning spray!

This cleaning spray can be used to clean surfaces with, and if you want a deeper clean, then try sprinkle some baking soda over the specific area and then spray this cleaningspray over the baking soda and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off with a good scrub.

  • 1 part white vinegar
  •  1 part water

Put both ingredients in a spray bottle, and then you’ve made a very natural cleaning spray. In this way you can clean your house/apartment without worrying about letting any nasty chemicals out into the nature when you rinse it down the sink, and thereby take even better care of our lovely Planet, while at the same time having a clean house.

*I bought my spray bottle through this shop at

Today it’s going to be all about how you can make your very own natural and moisturising lip balm! It only consist of 4 ingredients and it is super easy to make.

If you haven’t noticed it yet, then I can tell you that I love to make homemade skincare products. This time it was time to make homemade lip balm. I can absolutely not take credit for the recipe as I’ve mainly just followed ones I’ve found on the internet, but I’ve left out any kind of essential oils and just added some vitamin E oil. That is just my preference to leave out essential oils since I often find that lip balms can get too perfumed, and I actually just prefer the smell of more discrete and natural ingredients such as coconut oil and shea butter, this just smells divine, if you ask me!

  • 2 tbs of shea butter
  • 1 tbs of coconut oil
  • 1 tbs of beeswax
  • A few drops of vitamin E oil

This amount fills 4 of these small tin containers.

How to do it

You put all the ingredients into a doubled boiler and wait for it all to melt and mix. Pour it all into small tin containers, I bought mine from, and then put them in the fridge for about 1/2 hour. Easy peasy, now you’ve made homemade natural and moisturising lip balm!

“This is also a lovely little gift idea, which you can either give alone or you can make a little gift basket filled with homemade body butter, a body scrub and lip balm!

Environment Sustainable Sustainable & Conscious living Zero waste

I made an article a while ago for Sustain Daily about ways in which you can make your bathroom more sustainable. I thought that I would translate it into English and add some more things on it as well and show you, how you can make your bathroom more zero waste.

1. Switch to reusable cotton pads

Instead of using single-use cotton pads, buy some reusable ones which you can just wash after use and then use again and again. For make-up removal use some almond oil and water on the cotton pad and use this to fx take off mascara.

2. Use a shampoo bar and an applecider vinegar hair rinse

Instead of buying plastic bottles of shampoo and conditioner, try to switch to a shampoo bar, and to make your hair more soft after using it try using an apple cider hair rinse afterwards.

3. Switch to a menstrual cup

Save money and save the environment from a lot of trash by switching from single-use tampons and pads to a menstrual cup, reusable cotton pads or menstrual panties.

4. Use a bamboo toothbrush

Next time you’re buying a toothbrush go after one in bamboo instead of plastic, then it can be composted once you are done using it.

5. Make your own body products

There are a ton of DIY recipe’s out there. You can make your own deodorant, make your own body lotion and so much more.

6. Go for skincare in glass, steel containers or without any packaging

Whenever you are buying skincare products, strive for fx oils in glass or cremes in steel containers. Or go for soaps without any packaging or soaps wrapped in cardboard which can be recycled afterwards.

7. Switch to a safety razor

Instead of buying plastic razor heads, then try to switch to a safety razor. This will also save you money in the long run since the blades are much much cheaper.

8. Make your own toothpaste

Make your own toothpaste in a glass container, easy, cheap and better for the environment.

9. Get a wooden hairbrush

If you have a hairbrush, then of course just use that, but if it is time to get a new one then go for a wooden one.

10. Make your own scrubs and face masks

You can easily make your own scrubs or face masks out of natural food ingredients such as coffee grounds, avocado, oats, salt, sugar, honey, bananas etc. There are so many awesome recipe’s out on the internet, just google!

DIY Sustainable & Conscious living Zero waste

Mit første DIY (do it yourself)-projekt under min zero waste rejse var at prøve at lave min egen tandpasta.

My very first DIY (do it yourself)-project during my zero waste journey was to try to make my own toothpaste. It was incredibly easy, but while I have no problems trying products on my skin without much concern – I must admit that I am a bit more cautious when it comes to dental hygiene, since I do not want to take any risk with my teeth. So I use this homemade toothpaste once in a while, but I still complement with using a bought toothpaste most of the time (Aloe vera toothpaste from Forever Living). However, I do know that many zero wasters are only using the homemade toothpaste recipe, and Lauren Singer has used it for years and have fine teeth!

But, if you want to make your own toothpaste, then follow along!

2 tbsp of coconut oil
1 tbsp of baking soda
15-20 drops of peppermint essential oil
A little bit of stevia powder

You simply combine all the ingredients together into a glass and mix it well together, and then you have toothpaste! Because of the coconut oil melts at too warm temperatures, it can have a tendency to become too liquid. If that happens you can just pop it into the refrigerator for a while and it will stiffen and become ready to use. I normally store my toothpaste in the refrigerator, and the days that I use it I just remember to take it out 1-2 hours before I need to use it.

Today it was time for me to try to make my own body butter, or body lotion, for the first time. You can use this body butter to put on your body after a nice bath, and get lovely smooth skin – and it’s only filled with natural ingrediens! You can follow many different recipes, and I’m definitely going to experiment with different ingredients in the future. But this time I made it with sheabutter, coconut oil and almond oil.

2 cups of sheabutter
1 cup of coconut oil
1 cup of almond oil

Put all the ingrediens into a double boiler and heat it up and let all the ingrediens melt. When all lumps are gone and it’s completely melted, put the bowl into the refrigerator. When the substance gets white and hardens, take it out and whip it with a whisk until it has a creamy consistency. After this pour it into a little glass or container, and voila you’ve your own body butter, which you can use to make your body smooth with. (Other ingrediens you could use: cacaobutter, olive oil, jojoba oil etc.). If you want a better demonstration on how to make this body butter, you can check out this video, because I’ve got my inspiration from Lauren Singer.

1 spsk natron
1 spsk kokosolie

This recipe I’ve completely stolen from Lauren Singer from Trash is for Tossers. It is a recipe for how to make your own natural deodorant. I’ve just made this myself the other day, and I’m excited to try out if it actually works, which I of course will report back about.

Recipe for deodorant
2 tbsp of arrowroot powder
1 tbsp of baking soda
1 tbsp of coconut oil
1 tbsp of sheabutter
A few drops of your own choice of essential oil

You start out by mixing arrowroot, baking soda, coconut oil and shea butter in a double boiler, and stir it around until it becomes liquidy. Then you add a few drops of essential oil of your own choice, I used 2 drops of tea tree oil in mine, because I’m not a huge fan of deodorants with a strong smell. Then you pour it up into a glass which can be closed, and put it into the fridge for about 20 minutes until it has hardened. Then you can just put it under your armpit and voila, there you have a homemade natural deodorant!

I have recently started to make my own homemade products. I find it quiet fun and cozy, and by making my own products I know exactly what is in them. In this way I can ensure that what I put inside or on my body is as natural and good for me as possible.

Remember that you skin is your largest organ, and what you put on it gets absorbed into your body. You should there always try to go after as natural products as possible. And this is where homemade products come into the picture. Because by making your own products you can choose exactly which ingrediens you want in the products, and nothing more.

There are many products in the market today who proclaims to be natural and free from this and that, but if you look at the ingrediens list you will find that they contain a lot of things. And often a lot of names which you don’t even know what are. You can avoid this by making your own products. And as I said, it is actually quiet cozy and fun.

I’ve become very fascinated by the motto “less is more”, and especially when it comes to skincare. Earlier on I used to use so many different products on my skin cleansing, scrubs, toners, serums, creams etc. But I have come to realize that it is better to mainly just let my skin handle itself. So now I just stick to using water, a little bit of soap sometimes and some oil to moisturize my skin (and if the pimples are coming, I just put a little bit of tea tree oil on them which will make them dry out).

I will of course share the recipes for the different products I’m making with you, so that you can try to make your own products as well.

Have you tried making any products yourself? Which ones?

It is winter, and I have dry lips, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one! What can you do about it? Well, you can use a lip scrub. You can either buy one, or make one yourself out of 3 simple ingrediens, which works perfectly.

All you need is:
– Brown sugar
– Olive oil
– Honey
– A little container

Then you just take the same amount of all the things and blend it together in the little container and voila, then you have your own lip scrub. You just put some on your lips, scrub it around and wash it off with water (or eat it, because it tastes so sweet). And then I finish off with some lip balm, and then my lips are soft and nice!
