THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

The lymphatic system, what is it and what does it? Let’s look more at that today, because it’s actually very important for your health and well-being! 🌿🌿

In our bodies we have several different systems. We have the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive and the lymphatic system.

Majority of these systems runs all by themselves, without you having to “actually” do anything.

However, the lymphatic system is depending on YOU to activate it. And it’s actually quiet important that you do so. Because the lymphatic system is part of the immune system. it consists of a network of lymph vessels and ducts that collect excess fluid from your tissue and transport the fluid to the bloodstream. The lymphatic system helps to move toxins from your body, and it is therefore very good for your health to get this system activated, so that you can eliminate these toxins and get them out of your system.

How do you activate the lymphatic system?

You can activate the lymphatic system in several different ways:

  • Walking / exercising
  • Rebounding (fx jumping on a trampoline/rope)
  • Yoga
  • Gua sha & face rolling
  • Deep belly breathing
  • Dry brushing
  • Lymph drainage massage

THE GUT-BRAIN CONNECTION

Can you change your mood by changing the food you eat? I would argue; yes! Because the gut-brain connection is incredibly strong! 🌿

One of the things that fascinates me the most about holistic health, is how it’s all connected! Your entire body – body and mind – is connected, and one thing affects the other, and the other way around, it’s incredibly fascinating!

As much as 90(!!)% of serotonin is made in your gut! Serotonin is the “happy hormone”/neurotransmitter, that is responsible for making you happy.

Let me just say that again – 90%!

What can we derive from that fact? That the food you eat and digest literally affect your mood!

You can thereby INCREASE your emotional well-being and happiness by eating more “gut friendly” food, such as whole foods, vegetables, fruits, fermented foods, probiotics etc. – the things that makes your gut health better! And by improving your gut health you will thereby – in the long run, also be able to improve your overall well-being!

Isn’t that just amazing?

Not to mention that eating “gut friendly food”, can also help if you have digestive problems or skin issues – because, it’s all connected! 🌿

THE BENEFITS OF MAGNESIUM

You’ve probably heard about magnesium before, but do you know how important it is for your body to function properly? In this blogpost I will share about the benefits of magnesium & how you can take it 🌿🌿

Magnesium is a supplement you need to know about, especially if you suffer from migraines, headaches, muscle cramps or have problems with your sleep . As you might know, I work in a health store, and I have so many customers who swear by magnesium – especially for muscle cramps.

But no wonder why, magnesium is such an important mineral for your body! Magnesium is involved in hundreds of biochemical reactions in your body. About 60% of the magnesium in your body is found in your bones, while the rest is in muscles, soft tissues and fluids, including your blood. Every cell in your body contains it and needs it to function properly.

Magnesium is actually involved in more than 600 reactions in your body, such as: energy creation, protein formation, gene maintenance, muscle movements and nervous system regulation.

Benefits of Magnesium

As magnesium helps calm your nervous system and relax your body, it can be very beneficial to help with headaches, migraines or muscle cramps of any kinds.

If you feel like you’re about to get a headache, you can fx try to take a magnesium supplement (and of course, drink plenty of water!). Many people also find that it helps with reducing muscle cramps or that it’s good to take after exercising.

Because it helps to calm down your nervous system, many people also find that it helps to improve their sleep, as their body relaxes more.

Different ways to take magnesium

  • You can take a magnesium supplement, either in capsules or in powder form where you mix it with water and drink it
  • You can use an magnesium oil or spray to put on your body or feet
  • You can take an epsom salt footbath
  • You can of course also get magnesium through your diet. Foods that are high in magnesium are fx dark chocolate, nuts, seeds, avocados, legumes and whole grains. Magnesium is found in almost all foods, but especially foods that are high in fibre

THE BENEFITS OF FLAXSEEDS

Flax seeds have so many health benefits, it’s truly a wonderful seed! If you do not already use it in your diet, then I bet you want to incorporate them into your diet more after reading about the benefits of flax seeds! 🌿

Flax seeds are full of Nutrients

Just one tablespoon of flax seeds provides you with a good amount of protein, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids (the good kind of fat!), and is also a rich source of some vitamins and minerals.

Flax seeds are high in Omega-3 Fats

Flax seeds are high in omega-3 fats, the good kind of fat that we do want to get! Good fats, omega-3 helps reduce inflammation, can help with lower risk of heart disease and stroke and helps with better heart health.

Flax seeds are rich in Dietary Fiber

Flax seeds are rich in dietary fiber, and not only does this help with slowing down your digestion, which helps to regulate blood sugar and lower cholesterol. It also allows more water to bind to the stools, which increases their bulk and results in softer stools. This can help prevent constipation, and can be especially helpful for those suffering from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

Flax seeds might help to Balance Hormones

If you are experiencing that your hormones are out of balance, it could perhaps also be that you aren’t eating enough healthy fats (omega-3 fatty acids). As flax seeds are high in these, it’s such a good thing to add to your diet! Especially if you’re a vegan/vegetarian and don’t eat fish, then it’s important to add enough healthy fats to your diet for optimal brain health and balance of your hormones.

Tips for adding Flax Seeds to your Diet

  • You can use flax seed oil in your smoothies or on salads
  • You can sprinkle grounded flax seeds on your oatmeal
  • You can sprinkle grounded flax seeds on your yoghurt
  • You can bake bread, cakes etc. with whole flax seeds

*Nutrition tip! 🌿🌿
It’s best to ground the flax seeds before ingestion, as they are easier digested in this way. Whole flax seeds can still be good to use when fx baking, but you won’t reap as many health benefits from the whole flax seeds, as your intestines cannot break down the tough outer shell of the seeds. The best is to ground them in a coffee grinder and use the grounded flax seeds.

Flax seed oil is very sensitive to heat and light, so once opened a bottle of it, it usually only lasts for 4-6 weeks. And you should store it in the fridge in a dark bottle, to keep it preserved as good as possible. I personally love to use it in my smoothies – after I’ve blended the smoothie I put it in afterwards and just mix it around with a spoon.

HOW IS A HOLISTIC HEALTH COACHING PROGRAM WITH ME LIKE?

I’ve been getting some questions about how a coaching program with me is like, so I thought I would tell a bit about it here today! ✨🌿

In the coaching program we’re working on a health problem you might have, my main focus are within skin health and gut health, but if you have any other, feel free to contact me and ask if that is something I can help you with.

A Holistic view point

In my coaching program we’re looking at your life through a holistic view-point. Meaning, we won’t just look at what you eat and the nutrition side of things, we’ll look at your life as a whole. Because I believe that there are so many more factors that play a role in our health and well-being, other than just what we eat.

It’s therefore beneficial if you’re already open to the idea, that your health issues might come from deeper things, rather than just whether or not you “eat healthy”.

In the beginning of our program I’ll ask you to fill out The Circle of Life, which you can read more about in this blogpost. Here we’re going to look at which aspects of your life you feel satisfied in, and which you would like to work on. Then we’ll begin working on improving those areas of your life where you feel the least satisfied in.

From there on I’ll give you some advice and some action-steps to take until we meet again.

The benefits of working with a coach is of course that I’m able to give you advice on your health issue – but it’s even more about having support, and having someone there to help keep you accountable towards actually taking action and doing the necessary things you need to in order to really change your life.

“Knowing doesn’t change your life. Taking action and really implementing the things you learn is what will change your life”

The Practical Aspect

I offer 3- and 6-months 1:1 programs. I for sure recommend the 6-month program, as I know how long it can take to really change your habits and thereby your life – I know this both personally, but also from those that I have been working with, changing habits and your lifestyle really does take time, as the habits we live by today are so deeply ingrained in us.

By choosing a 6 month program, we’ll also be able to cover more things and dive even deeper into what might really be the root cause of your issues, and we’ll have time to uncover and change beliefs that might have kept you stuck for a long time.

We will meet 2 x month (every other week) for around 40 minutes per session. The sessions are done over Skype, so you can do them from the comfort of your home. I want to make it as cozy and comfortable as possible for you – so make a nice cup of tea and just relax while we’re having the sessions. Remember, this is something you do for YOU.

In these sessions we’ll cover how it’s been going since our last sessions, and we’ll cover what’s happening in your life. Because life goes up and down, and perhaps your lack of motivation one week is due to stress at work, or something else, and then we’ll of course take that into account when setting new goals for you.

At the end of each sessions I’ll give you some recommendations for new action-steps that you can take. I’ll also provide any resources that I find relevant to you specifically along the way, whether that be a book, article or something else that I feel with resonate with you and help your journey.

Between our sessions, you are free to send me an e-mail or DM on Instagram and ask me any questions, and I’ll also happily ask you to send a picture every time you’ve done one of our tasks, if that can motivate you even more to do it! I love being there as a support and to help keep you motivated and inspired towards becoming the best version of yourself!

If this is something you would be interested in, then I can offer you a free 30 minutes Health History session! Here we’ll go through your health history, your main health concerns and you get a change to “meet me” and feel whether you would like to work with me or not 🌿

If you would like a free Health History session, then either send me a DM on Instagram @camillatromborg, or send me a mail at: camilla.tromborg@hotmail.com, and we’ll find a time that works

FIBERS FOR BETTER DIGESTION

Do you have problems with your digestion? Perhaps you aren’t eating enough fibre throughout the day. Fibre is essential in order to have an optimal functioning gut and it can help to improve your digestion 🌿🌿

If you have problems with your digestion and does not pass bowel motions easily, it could be because you are not eating enough fibre during the day.

Fibre is part of plant foods and it is essential for us in order to have optimal functioning of the gut. Fibre feeds our gut bacteria and supports regular bowel motions (which is key! Because what we eat is not only essential for our health, but what we eliminate and get rid of is also very important for our health and well-being).

Fibre helps to “clean” our intestines of bacteria, it adds water and bulk to our stool and it controls our blood sugar levels through slowing our digestion.

You can choose to take a fibre supplement (fx psyllium husk), but the most important would be to optimise your whole foods intake and get your fibre from plant sources.

Foods that are high in fibre:

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Kiwi fruit
  • Unripe bananas
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Avocados
  • Nuts & Seeds
  • Flaxseeds
  • Chiaseeds
  • Beans
  • Lentils
  • Most vegetables (fx carrots, broccoli, cauliflower)

So if you are having problem with your digestion, then try to eat more fibre-rich foods. However don’t go from eating nothing of these to eating tons, but gradually week by week try to consume more of these and see what it does to your digestion.

+ Of course also remember to drink plenty of water during the day, as this can really help your digestion – and your overall heath – as well!

*Tip! You can also choose to make this delicious green smoothie a couple of times a week to opt your fibre intake + put in some hemp seeds and grounded flaxseeds as well for even more fibre!

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

In the coaching education that I’m taking, one of the well-known tools that we are using is something called “The Circle of Life”. This is used to determine where in your life you can work on improving your life ✨

In my coaching practice with working 1:1 with people, I’m asking my clients to fill out this thing called “The Circle of Life” a couple of times over our time together.

What is it?

The Circle of Life covers different areas of your life. The idea is that you then look at each area and then you set a dot far into the middle if you’re not feeling satisfied in that area of your life – or far out if you do feel satisfied in that area. In the end you then connect all the dots with lines.

Then you get a clear picture of what areas of your life where there is something that might bother, frustrate, irritate you – which affects your overall health and well-being. Because from the education I’m taking and my point of view, health needs to be looked at from a holistic viewpoint – you can eat all the greens and exercise, but if you do not take care of other areas of your life; career, relationships, finances etc. then you will never reach a point of feeling fully good, happy and content with your life. It all affects your health and well-being.

We will then start working on the area that feel most unsatisfying for you at the moment and together figure out some action steps you can take to feel more satisfied and content within that area.

The point with The Circle of Life is of course never to have a completely perfect circle – no one ever will, because life is not always perfect in all areas of life, but the point is to focus on what’s affecting your health and well-being the most and try to do something about then.

Then over time when you’ve done the exercise over a few months you’ll see how your focus changes and how you have improved in the areas you once did not feel as good about.

If you have any questions in regard to working with me, or want to hear more about it, feel very welcome to send a comment here or on Instagram, or send me an e-mail ✨

KNOWING DOESN’T CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Today I want to talk about a very important factor when it comes to changing your life: knowing doesn’t change your life. What does change your life is implementing the things you learn in your life and sticking to them 🙌✨

We all have so much information available to us today, and you can Google most things – but knowing doesn’t change your life. Taking action and really implementing the things you learn is what will change your life.

I speak from experience in this matter!

I have read countless of books, watch webinars, gotten advice on XYZ, then I tried some of it out for a few weeks and then didn’t see results and quit and went on to the next thing.

It wasn’t until I started to really implement the things I learned in my life and stayed consistent with it over longer periods of time that I truly started seeing changes in my life:

– Seeing my skin starting to clear up
– Getting growth on my social media sites
– Starting to believe in myself and gaining more confidence
– Seeing improvements in my durability in running

You see, we all can gain information about what to do in regards to almost ANYTHING in life thanks to the wonderful internet. I promise you, if you have skin or digestive problems, then I have already created tons of advice for you in these free blogposts on my blog.

But again, it all comes down to DOING, not just knowing.

We all know eating vegetables is good for our health – but do we do it?
We all know exercising is good for our health – but do we do it?
We all know that if we want to get something done, we have to work on it – but do we do it?

This is why I decided to become a Holistic Health Coach, because I want to help YOU to make that change in your life. I want to help you to implement those things into your life that can really change your life.

And this is why working with a coach can be so beneficial, because then you have someone to remind you and to keep you accountable – which can be such a motivating factor in actually getting things done, and truly implementing those life-changing habits into your life 🙌✨

HOW TO BALANCE FEMALE HORMONES

Do you have problems with hormonal imbalance? Many women do nowadays, so today I want to share some tips on how to balance female hormones 💕✨

First of all, what exactly is “hormones”?

Hormones are chemical messengers that send signals that allow for communication across your entire body, so that the processes we need to survive can be carried out.

Hormones are what regulate critical functions such as; sleep, stress & reproduction.

But hormones work together in a very complex system – and when one gets off balance, it affects the next one and so on. So therefore, it’s always important to look at how to create hormonal balance overall in your body.

In this day and age, our hormones gets affected by SO many things; air pollution, plastic in our food/skincare, processed food, too much caffeine, having been on the birth control pill, stress etc. We are constantly getting exposed to things that can get our hormones out of balance and affect our health and well-being.

Signs that your hormones might be out of balance:
You experience chronic fatigue, have low sex drive, intense PMS, or perhaps you’re dealing with cystic acne.

So, what can you do to balance your female hormones?

  • Eat plenty of veggies and fruits
  • Go for organic food, as pesticides can affect your hormones
  • Go for local foods. Food as close to the source as possible is the best for your health!
  • Eat more healthy fats, as fats are the building blocks for hormones (olive oil, avocados, nuts, seeds)
  • Rest and relax more. Our bodies are not made to live in this fast-paced world with constant new information, deadlines etc. Remember to take care of yourself and take time to just rest and relax
  • Get enough sleep
  • Switch all plastic food containers and drinking bottles out with some made from glass or stainless steel. Plastic contains BPA which is affected your health, especially if you heat up food in plastic containers
  • Balance your nervous system – use practices like deep breathing or meditation to calm your nervous system
  • Look at your exercising routine – sometimes the harder you exercise, the more stress you put on your body. Perhaps switch some of the hardcore gym workouts out with a slow yoga class or a nice walk in nature instead

Have you experienced problems with hormonal imbalance? Is there any of these tips you find helpful and want to implement in your life? Then I would love to hear from you, and help you on your journey! Always feel free to reach out to me either here on my blog or on my Instagram! 💕✨
